pasteurizing coir bucket style

if you pour boiling water (212f) in a bucket with coir, would it sterilize the outside of the brick, but cool down to 170f fast enough to only pasteurize most of it? i'm asking because i read somewhere on this site about using 170f water to hydrate coir as a quick pasteurization method, but it seems that the water would cool down too fast to really be effective. i do realize that actually using the pillowcase/170f water submersion would be ideal, but i was pretty sure the report of 170f hydration was a success, so my question is: would the same method with 212f water would be better or worse.

If you can provide enough air exchange, you don't have to pasteurize your layer at all.
However, it's possible to pasteurize via hydrating, since you only pasteurize for more than an hour to make sure the center of your bag (if you use one), reaches about 170F.
The actual pasteurization process is done in about 30 seconds and it's likely, that the water stays in the required temperature range for this amount of time.

I just did 4 consecutive monotubs, all with the bucket pasturization method..
I boiled water, then threw that into a bucket, added the brick and some worm castings/gypsum...
cover, let sit till cooled.
I then just wear gloves, and pick up handfulls of coir and squeeze till it's at field capacity, then load up into the tubs with spawn...
I havent had a contam yet.
my first two tubs went 3 flush's deep. no contams whatsoever.
however, this is mostly due to the highly sealed enviroment that the monotubs give you.
monotubs are just the only way to go from now on for me.

only 4 days old...might as well
when mixing additives into your coir sub., do you just throw them in and let the coir soak them up with the water?
i know normally with a casing you mix things dry.
but being that dry coir is kinda hard to mix as it would just thud and flop around(get it cuz its a brick ...i need sleep)...but say i want to add some coffee and some gypsum (and anything else YOU ALL SUGGEST I ADD)do i throw it in, in its respective amounts to the coir, then add my hotwata?
lemme know

hmmmmm....or should i mix it in my pot of water so it has a chance to dissolve and spread out evenly in the water, and then add the water to the brick?

my friend threw everything on top of the brick, then hydrated. of course, later it was all hand mixed when the spawn was added, but i think it is wise to hydrate all of it together. perhaps i'm wrong, but it doesn't seem that way.

aside from what i just typed about it being on the brick, i forgot to mention that my friend threw about 2 or 3 cups of coffee in with his gallon of water. mixing your additives in with the pot sounds pretty good. may give some time for the desired elements to permeate the water more so it all goes into the coir better.

ok. would is be wrong to mix it in the water first?
like make an additive tea, and that way it soaks into the coir evenly...
or would mixing it in straight water dissolve it too much?
