from personal experience you can scrape off the uncolonized portion (uncolonized substrate = free food source for mold) and use the colonized section(s).
some would say dont bother but if you have a few other jars with that strain just use it; carefully. the less exposed substrate the better

Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go?
maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it!

I second that. In fact, I just tossed all the excised portions into an empty 1/2 pint jar and added a little H2O2 to ward off contams and the little chunks actually colonized and produced one of my biggest fruits! Sadly there was only one flush but it was definitely a testament to the resilience to contams the cakes sometimes show

You may want to fruit it away from other cakes too, in case it contaminates

Good luck

I would make sure why my cake did not colonize in one spot first. If it smells at all wierd I would be hesitant. In fact, my freind who messes with this stuff is hesitant about such things.

Has anyone ever eaten shrooms that came from a cake that had invisible bacteria on it?

Support bacteria - they're the only culture some people have.
