failed xp install boots up on vista

I try reinstalling windows xp pro on a dell. The installation failed and everytime the blue screen of death came up. So I then installed a copy of vista which worked perfectly fine. Now the only problem is that when the computer starts up, the boot manager shows that there is 2 options: windows vista and the xp pro installation setup.. The xp pro installation is the default but still just leads to the blue screen. How can I delete the xp installation entry and have it just boot up automatically with vista?
I've tried control panel > system > advanced system settings > start up and recovery settings It says vista is the default OS and it is the only thing listed there..
Any ideas on how to get rid of the failed xp install? Thanks

shit...i don't know with vista...you could try to boot with the vista cd in, go to recovery console, and make sure you are at c:/...then type 'fixmbr'.
works with xp...but I have never used vista for longer than 10 minutes.
peace

Thanks for the fast reply.
I just looked up how to do what you suggested. It is slightly different for vista.
I just booted from the disc, went to repair computer, then command prompt and tried: bootrec /fixmbr /fixboot /rebuildbcd
None of those fixed my problem though. This is my first time using vista.

Thanks again, but I just solved my problem.
Windows vista does not use a boot.ini anymore like previous versions of windows. Now it uses BCDEDIT.exe to modify the boot options. So i used the bcdedit, but it showed that the vista was the only OS and it was the default.
So here is what the problem was... The failed installation of the xp left a boot.ini hidden on my harddrive and that was causing it to be a boot option. I just edited that boot.ini and now my problem is resolved. It starts right up with vista now.
Now that that problem is fixed, I'm sure that vista will give me plenty more to deal with. So far so good though.
