I always forget about a few jars and leave them sitting around for long perieds of time. Cleaning jars sucks, specialy contaminated jars. Or even worse, jars you prepped but never pressure cooked and left sitting. Those smell like dead fetus...:(

Are you going to try to use them?

No matter how well you think you sterilized the jars, some bacteria and fungi will be present.

Looks like you have yourself a nice jar full of methanol, ethanol, acetone, acetaldehyde, and various other yeast (and maybe mycelial) metabolites.

Not unless your nose can perform PCR and do restriction mapping.

You can try to smell tat but I really, really wouldn't. Why not just start fresh and clean? Maybe consider banishing those jars to an outdoor patch?

All old jars I used ended up with that much fluid in them but it was crystal clear. When I tried to fruit the jars INVIRTRO, the bluish spots were the first places to get mold.

My quart jars always contaminate when I try invirtro, but spawn them out to some poo and let see some pics!
