Which OS?

I'm currently running a registered version of windows vista ultimate. Alot of people use my computer so now its going slow as hell. I have a 3.33ghz 2gig-ddr2 ram and a 512ddr2 geforce video card. I'm thinking about going back to windows XP because of its compatibility. But I don't have a registered version of this...The computer definitely needs to be formatted. With my ram and video card, i'm pretty sure windows XP would run really fast. I need some opinions..
Windows XP? Windows Vista? I actually thought about linux as well, but probably will not go that route because of certain compatibility issues and alot of people that use my computer won't know what to do. Lol.

I've run computer systems with several hundred users and never had a problem with it slowing down. I suspect your issue with a slow as hell computer is because of windows and not because you have a lot of people using it.

Buggy?
I've had no problems, and performance boosts up to 10% have been reported.

I have vista reinstalled now. I am going to look for a good copy of XP and install it instead.

> I've had no problems
I just installed a fresh legal copy of XP Pro on a computer, installed SP3, and then went to install .NET framework and it refuses to allow it to go on... either version, 1 or 2. I'd call that a problem.
The Microshit error: "There is a problem with your computer." Yeah right... more like there is a problem with Windows. My computer is just fine; other than it has a piece of junk OS created by an 'evil' monopoly eating part of the hard drive.

I had the same problem, very annoying.

if you are going to download xp pro, do yourself a favor and look for a student edition with sp2 integrated. The student versions need no activation, the key is for a university and can be installed as many times as you want, and you can download all the updates from microsoft.com, passing their bullshit checks, even though I still don't let them put the Genuine Disadvantage tool on mine.

fuck all that extra bloat...windows is bad enough as is
http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1419105/6171825/
or
http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1435557/8640555/
both of those are fine, pass everything, and are student copies. the first is just without all the more recent updates, which I would install myself, the second comes fully updated through february...

lol...in the big picture of things, microsoft is happy that people are pirating their OS...if it was actually impossible to do, there would be many more linux users, and it would probably be more functional than it already is.
I wonder what the statistic is of pirated vs. paid for installs of windows xp around the globe is...i bet it isn't pretty.
the only reason I even have a legit copy now, is that I can get one copy per year from work for 19.99...before that, I used student copies on many computers...
that being said, www.pclinuxos.com is wonderful

Well I'm not totally sure that'd be true, because there is such a taboo surrounding using Linux OS.
I've heard they're far easier to use and install than windows now, so they would probably become popular really quickly
