fortifying the substrate

what are some ways to fortify the substrate? by this i mean adding helpful nutrients to the usual BRF, water, vermiculite mix?

I have read somewhere about making poo-water and using that in the substrate. Are there any other time-tested methods?

Also the water left over from boiling grain is sposed to be good to use for making BRF jars.
