The Unabomber Manifesto
    #8391461 -

Has anyone read this? I've been doing some research into Theodore Kaczynski lately, and I've been somewhat surprised to find him wholly misrepresented by the media. His manifesto actually provides a somewhat convincing argument for the inevitable evils brought on by an industrialized society, and draws the conclusion that as soon as man invents machines that are smarter than him, all hope is lost for the human race. http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Industrial_Society_and_Its_Future

Contrary to the popular belief that he was a nut, he was actually a mathematician specializing in an arcane field of geometric function theory, and reputedly had an IQ of 167. The FBI psychologists labeled him as a "paranoid schizophrenic," but I've come to the conclusion that he knew exactly what he was doing--by sending bombs to leading computer science professors, he was attempting to stave off the advent of the technological singularity that he predicted would doom the human race. Of course, that's not necessarily a smart thing to do, but his motives for doing so were anything but mad IMO.

Interesting stuff, at any rate.

I'm almost half way through. The idea of the power process and its effects on modern man speaks volumes to me, especially as I identify with quite a few of the traits he defines as leftist (though a lot of it I can't even begin to relate with: oversocialization, hypersensitivity to derogatory terms, the ability to relate with minorities only as a result of seeing them as inferior, etc).

Who is the 'we' he continuously refers to?

Edit: Ah, the 'Freedom Club'.

I read his manifesto and found it rather sophomoric.

I refuse to read something, outside of research, that has been intentionally advertised by the indiscriminate killing of innocent people.

Surprise surprise. The only thing nuttier then him was the society he comes from.

I think he was off the mark with some of his targets, but I certainly agree with you that he was not a paranoid schizophrenic, but rather quite aware of what he was doing and simply following the logical conclusion of his thinking through to action in the world. A debate over tactics would surely be relevant, but I can't help but respect the man for stepping out of the fear of consequences that binds so many to carving out safe niches in the society that makes them sick.

And we must applaud his bringing the hoodie to the forefront of fashion.

Nietzsche would have loved him. Theodore was full of ressentiment.

This would mean you'd have to stay away from almost every single political and religious document that has ever been written.
