Parking Lot Morels
    #8390502 - 05/11/08 08:07 PM (15 years, 9 months ago)

so, driving to lunch today to celebrate my sister's graduation from her university, i pull into the japanese hibachi place and notice a couple curious shapes in the mulch ahead of my car

they were growing straight out of that red-colored mulch.  there was only a small ornamental bush a couple feet away.

these are the first i've ever found or even seen.  the edges are a bit dry from a few hours of hot sun but they are still quite fresh, still nice and soft.

what's a fun way to cook these surprising morel morsels?

They're pretty tasty dipped in egg, coated in seasoned bread crumbs, and fried up i butter.

Or just straight up sauteed.

Yeah, sous chef.  My description above was rather lacking, I really add a ton of spices, and butter and olive oil, some white wine... Good shit right there.  :drooling:
