i got a cereus that started doing that when it was getting more sun. it has since grown several new flower buds. too bad i left the damn thing at my parents house so i won't get to see it bloom.

Glaucescence - a fine bloom, blush or coating of whitish or bluish-white substances, usually microscopic particles of wax, easily rubbed off the surface.

As I said in another thread recently... think of it as cactus dandruff. Some cacti species produce it, some dont... and of the species that do, not all varieties or individual plants will produce it.

The cacti which have most blueing are the ones which receive most light,
mmmm! ,
therefore I would guess its a form of natural sun location / sun block. I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong ----- Murple

I have that all over my cacti garden. I was under the impression it is some kind of mold.
