I had no idea about the whole plethora of gods thing, or about Mormons becoming gods after they die. Pretty wild.

Theres just enough truth about Mormon doctrine in there to make it really funny to someone like me, and just enough lies/distortions to make it a pretty ridiculous piece of propaganda.

This kind of stuff makes me sick. I may not be a follower of Mormonism but why the fuck does everyone seem to think it's any less credible than any other religion? Fuck biggotry.

I lived in Salt Lake City for a while while going to school study religion and philosophy. I think they are on to something about becoming gods, translated much more loosly of course.

I think that a lot of the time, science and religion can be reconciled. If I'm not misinformed, this is part of the Baha'i faith. Some things are just metaphors, like the creation of Adam and Eve, other things we know happened like the great flood and the exodus of the Jews from Egypt (even though they may have happened slightly differently than explained in a biblical text). Things like Israelites magically travelling to the Americas and becoming the ancestors of the Native Americans, or evil alien overlords though, I tend to scoff at. Unless perhaps these are a metaphor as well? I don't know enough about Mormonism or Scientology to really judge though.

Magically... on a boat, ie Noah (or are you reffering to blood lines or something?). It's at least semi-plausible, although lacking in scientific proof like most religion.

No, I'm just saying that the great flood happened. Archaeological evidence shows that the area all around the Mediterranean flooded thousands of years ago, and I think a boat was discovered on top of Mount Ararat. And the fact that almost all ancient civs have a story of a great flood, the Egyptians, Babylonians, Hebrews, Chinese, Native Americans, I think it should be inferred that a giant flood did happen. I'm not saying that all humans except Noah and his family were killed, but I bet a lot of people died. I don't know, when I read religious stories from around the world, I always try to picture the events through the eyes of ancient peoples, with little knowledge of science. Like the universe being created in 6 days- I see it as kind of like 1) the big bang 2)matter coalesced into planets and stars 3) light came from the stars 4) water gathered in pools and oceans 5) life evolved 6) man evolved from apes. Like things happened in stages, and then people tripping face transcended time and saw it all happening, and described it in the best terms they had- that the universe was created in 'days' (stages). I don't know, I would explain it better if I could but I just had a couple exams and I'm fried.

"There is one notable sect or offshoot of Quakerism known as the "Shaking Quakers" or simply, "Shakers". Under the leadership and James and Ann Wardley circa 1758, a group of Quakers noticeably shook or trembled under the influence of the Holy Spirit. (NOTE: according to one source, Shakers got their name from one of their unique practices, in which they "shaked" themselves to rid themselves of evil.)
Ann Lee (often called "Mother" Ann) led a group of eight Shakers from Manchester, England to the wilderness of Watervliet (formerly Niskeyuna), near Albany, New York circa 1772-1774, where the Shakerism movement grew.
Later, under the leadership of Joseph Meacham and Lucy Wright, Shakers started to practice communalism in the 1790's. There were about 6,000 Shakers by 1840.
Unfortunately, Shakers almost became extinct by 1940. Only a few small groups remain today. One of the main reasons for this was that Shakers prohibited marriage and sex, which can be traced back to Ann Lee's belief in celibacy."
