Life is interesting isn't it?
    #835727 - 08/22/02 12:15 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

Today has been an odd day to say the least. When I woke up @ 12:00 pm I had received a call from my business partner who informed me that he as gotten the funding for our project. YAAAHHOOO! great way to start the day Then I decided to take my new copy of The Celestine Prophecy for a bike ride and find a nice place in the park to read it. I got myself a great salad at the greek restaurant next to the park and began to read the book. Afterwards I progressed to the park and found myself a nice secluded area next to the river to continue with the book. I finished the first chapter and I was going over how to interpret it when I fell asleep. I had become lucid in my dream and I started talking to the other beings around me asking them about the Celestine Prophecy and one being told me that I had to understand that for myself and as he was saying that I had begun to understand that I need to listen to my first instincts more often because they are right. Also by trusting my initial reaction to events in life I will be more centered and relaxed. I was awoken by kids on the bridge about 20 meters away shouting at me. I laughed at their taunts and rolled over to moon them. Normally I would have gotten a bit self conscious and done nothing but I was definitely more relaxed and thought it funny to get them back. so did they. On the ride home ( about 30 min ago ) I was crossing the final crosswalk by my house. I was watching a cop car to my right because I had a J with me and it is illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalk and also to cross a crosswalk on bike. I got off my bike before crossing when the vehicles were starting to come to a stop and I started walking. Halfway threw I was still looking at the cop car because I noticed the driver looking at me and the passenger start typing on his computer. All of the sudden I hear a loud screeching and I look to my left and 1.5 feet to the left of me was a red dodge ram 3500 diesel that had almost made mince meat out of me! I looked at the driver calmly and gave him a well deserved FUCK YOU! I glanced back over at the cops, got on my bike and rode the rest of the way home. All of this in about 3 hours. It has definitely made me think more about the meaning of human existence. I am also impressed at my new found ability to calmly perceive a situation instantly without getting nervous or paranoid like I use to. I realize that I had a great relaxing start to the day but for some reason I feel like I have had a psychological re-alignment and am more at peace with myself. Interesting eh? I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this and if anything else happens to me -- for safety sake I hope not! -- I will post it. Cheers!

Sounds like you had a pretty good day.
It was packed full of different flavors... the good news, the greek salad, reading a book in the park, falling asleep in the park, waking up and mooning some squares, a little paranoia, and an asshole. You should hope that everyday is as diverse.

I seek such days... almost everyday (moderation... breaks are necessary).

When I was younger I had a lot of days like that in comparison to nowadays. When you live in wide circles it is possible to have days filled with events like the ones you described. For example, in my twenties I lived in Manhatten. Such days were pretty common place. Now I live in small circles out of a deliberate attempt to succeed in certain areas while ignoring the rest. I do not need the distraction as I once did. Certain people seek out experiences as a means to escape the mundane existence of ordinary life. I had a friend who loved to collect experiences like others collect baseball cards. If there was something new he had to try it. It was the only way he could feel alive. I think that we all paint meaning, as a fine veneer, over life's experiences.

It sounds like you are growing.

Have fun!

Does this mean that meaning is superficial and life is ultimately meaningless? Are experiences "given" meaning? Is meaning only created after the fact, through a mental process? Or does it exist right there in the moment?

Experiences just happen...they are what they are...they have no meaning other than that which we assign to them.
