A little while ago, perhaps last year, the media were making a big fuss about the news that improvements to HIV treatments (HAART etc) had reached the point where a newly-infected person could expect to die of old age, rather than AIDS. That is, we can't cure someone of HIV and we can't stop it progressing into AIDS, but we can delay its progression to the point where the patient can have a normal lifespan and die of something else. Kind of a strange milestone, but I guess that's why it stuck in my head.
However I can't find any details on that - perhaps it was the media exaggerating a report from a journal. All I can find is articles talking about how we're almost at that milestone, but not yet. In any case, it only applies to people who can afford the very best treatment, so it's not much use to everyone else.

check the statistics, diseases of the circulatory system, ei... heart disease is the leading cause of death, and as I mentioned before 'heart disease' isnt actually a disease, it's a blanket coverage of several ailments, most of which are preventable, ant neednt be treated with medication
http://www.statssa.gov.za/publications/P03093/P03093.pdf
in 2003 it changed, tuberculosis seems to be the leading cause now so here's the question, who is recieving all this money for the aids in the Republic of South Africa http://www.statssa.gov.za/Publications/P03093/P030932003,2004.pdf

a disease that can be successfully fought with drugs available in the West. But even then, AIDS isn't a particularly good example, because a more effective strategy is to teach safe sex (condom use etc).
so you're saying they have a cure for aids? or once again are they just treating symptoms, allowing people to live a little longer to boost statistics on people living longer through the use of drugs so doctors can once again brag about how great they are and allowing further transmission of the virus the unsuspecting healthy people, further continuing the cycle
yeah... modern medicine is wonderful isnt it

That's far better than I thought. I feel humbled that there are people out there achieving such remarkable things.
kinda like the aids scam in the republic of south africa, it's number 9 on the list of causes of death as shown by their statistics, not those of the often corrupt WHO and various aids charities

furthering the spread of the virus to the poor an unsuspecting people that cant afford the drug here in the west or anywhere else... it's a shame the modern medicine has stooped to this sort of low to boost statistics... doctors have doomed us all to death now

How do you prevent a disease without knowing what it is? Medicine isn't just about the actual pill you take, it's about the entire science of health.
How do you prevent stroke? Please answer using only 15th-century knowledge.

entire flawed science of health, 30 years ago coffee caused heart disease according to science, flawed study, there was no control group, almost everyone in the study was also smoker. Now coffee is considered one of the highest sources of antioxidants, strangely enough I posted something from the chinese regarding cigarettes, well that cup of joe and a few stogies each day are apparently beneficial... how's this for a slap in the face to modern medicine.
WHAT?!?!? They cant patent nicotine? I guess there's no help for patients of parkinson's, schizophrenia and ulcers http://www.scienceagogo.com/message_board5/messages/813.shtml
again I refer you to several of the links for the statin drugs, meant to lower cholesterol, found to be ineffective in that many do nothing or actually cause worse problems than you had to begin with, medicine isnt about the science of health, it's about making you feel better while you're sick.
medical science shouldnt take short cuts to find cures or treatments for various diseases, it's the reason why medical science fails, it's why these pharmaceutical companies and hospitals are responsible for millions of deaths each year, once again, look into the fraud of science, it's common practice, almost as common as medical practice

from the 15th century mindset "what's a stroke?" understand that 600 years ago there were fewer incidents of stroke per capita because many of the risk factors were not present, cocaine and meth for instance are triggers for a hemorrhagic stroke stroke, there were no OTC cold remedies containing sympathomimetics. so it looks like there were already in the habit of preventative treatment of apoplexia
common 'drug' of the day that would help prevent a stroke, willow bark, unfortunately is was only really known to the people of 'the new world' and used in the treatment of menstrual cramps, headaches and other minor pains, in fact once europeans moved here and discovered the drug it wasnt long before they managed to turn it into a little pill thats still in use today and recommended for the prevention of strokes and reduce the damage caused by heart attacks
BTW, did you know stroke is also listed as a disease?

I think it's asinine to place your faith in unproven concepts rather than proven methods of medicine, so I'd say, in general, they're fucking retards.
