I am starting to really like whiskey.

I never used to drink whiskey. The smell and the taste, I just found them repulsive. The other night I was out of weed, in no mood to buy beer, wanted to drink something though...and my roommates had gotten a few free bottles of Bushmills' Black Bush whiskey. So I poured myself a whiskey and ginger ale and started sipping it...my roommate and I played some Trivial Pursuit, and I was really paying attention to the drunk. I liked it. A lot. It's a different kind of drunk from gin or vodka or tequila, my usual drinks.
Last night I had the apartment to myself. I smoked a little weed and had two or three whiskey drinks and just sat down writing. I have to admit, I like the thought of drinking whiskey and writing. It makes me feel like I'm getting in touch with my inner Hemingway or something. It seems to me that whiskey and bourbon have long been the drinks of some great writers. And in general, I think a lot of great writers drink more than they do any other narcotic/drug/intoxicant/whatever you want to call it.
I just read back what I wrote last night and this could be dangerous - now I REALLY like whiskey! It really got some good going out of me.
I think I'm gonna go buy a bottle of Maker's Mark later.

Knob Creek and Makers Mark, are the absolute best American whiskeys, and I've had them all.

Knob Creek is too sweet, its the feminine bourbon if you dont mind my saying guv'na. I like my bourbons young, around 6 -8 years old and harsh. Bookers to me is one of the best bourbons out there, however I particularly enjoy a rye american whiskey. Wild Turkey is good for a normal drinking whiskey because its strong and not too sweet. My usual whiskey is Rittenhouse, costs about 12-15 dollars a fifth and is a surprisingly decent rye, 100 proof also

I don't like whiskey
I've tried many times, but I have to force myself to finish it

I was a rebel yell man myself before I discovered Rittenhouse. Rebel Yell is like 10-12 bucks a fifth, and for the price is relatively decent bourbon. Its far better than Jim Beam white label, but nothing to write home about

my first drunk was from a nice bottle of blue label my dad had lying around... needless to say i took it and got shitfaced with my friends... good times
but i definitely agree, whiskey has its creative side to it, i dont know if its because of the preconceived notions about the drink or its actually different in the way....

Well every kind of alcohol has its own kind of drunk. I am not so good at talking about alcohol as I am about psychedelics, all I know is that the Whiskey drunk's got something going on that loosens me up just right.

Try some of this. It's about $45 a bottle and 128 proof. A small glass of it and I'm crosseyed.
Delicious stuff too. Even with the very high alcohol content it's pretty good to drink straight.

R & R is fucking huge in MI. It's probably the most commonly imbibed liquor among people I know, especially high school kids because it's so cheap. It's decent but Jack Daniels is my personal favorite whiskey.

That Booker's looks interesting. I'm going to try it out next time I'm near a store that may have it.
I've got to get my still back. This thread makes me really want some of my home made scotch. I've never put the time into making bourbon. However, replacing sugar with malt extract like used in beer making can produce a quality of scotch that will surprise you. It's expensive but worth it. The last I made was 120 proof and stored on charred oak. Everyone went nuts over it. Even some of my friends who don't normally like scotch.

R&R is for sure a MI thing. I've drank gallons worth in my lifetime. Canadian LTD is my favorite cheap whiskey though. 7$ a 5th and the stuff is smooth as silk, also great with coke

JW Black is good. In a generic sort of way. It just doesn't seem to have much to say to me.
Honestly, I love my bourbon but, really wish I could afford my taste in old expensive red wines. There is a reason for the price tags. Each one has something unique to say. Drink enough of any of them and it's you that will say it.

whiskey is def the best of liqours im glad to hear you are starting to appreciate it. my list goes as follows.
chivas regal bakers/knob creek -> tied slight leaning towards bakers but not sig woodford reserve makers mark -> crowd pleaser as it is real good jim beam -> average but just overall good with tons of ways to drink it jack daniels -> really only drink sourmash whiskeys with a whiskey sour
id say i have beam the most and it actually might be higher on my favs than bakers or knob creek simply because its #1 cheaper and can be drank in a multitude of ways i.e. shots mixed drinks etc
there are so many good whiskeys im def forgetting alot
i love drinking scotch on the rocks, thats how man was supposed to consume booze.

What about mixing whiskey with other drinks? For me, I can't have wine and beer in the same night, it's not good. I liked whiskey enough when I was younger, cheap crap like Jack & Jim, and you could float a boat off the black velvet I drank, but enough about Jr. High.
Anyway, my favorite brewery has a great whiskey list, with some really tempting flights, but I can't imagine going there and not having a couple of brews. If I sipped a few whiskey's with friends, and then had a few beers, do you all think that would work out, or should we all just pitch in and get a great bottle?

anyone want to explain to me the different feelings of drunkness, and what drink is preferred say if you want to be happy drunk as opposed to angry drunk... haha?
ive gotten drunk off pretty much everything. spirits, beers n wines..
i cant really tell the different drunk feelings from them all.. just noticed the difference in ammount of drinks (time) it takes to get hammered.. but then again i was never realling experimenting or taking notice

i think it depends a little on the person... i personally have never gotten aggressive when drunk (neither when sober)...
i do, however, notice that with beer (ridiculous amounts, it's HARD for me to get hammered with beer) i become a slurry, stupid drunk... with wine, on the other hand i just start getting sleepy... as to high proof alcohol like tequila, whiskey or rum, i get the feeling that i don't become as stupid... as a matter of fact i seem to feel rather clearheaded when i drink them... but when i drink too much of them i don't pass out or even vomit... i just start having memory gaps...
a friend of mine gets really aggressive with high proof alcohol... he is a chill guy and i have never seen him in a fight but when he drink any alcohol of a higher percentage, for instance whiskey or tequila, he will become very aggressive... and this does not happen with beer or wine...

i see what you mean..
and come to think of it, most times i have become aggressive whilst under the influence, 9 times out of ten I was drinking Vodka and red bull (or an energy drink like that) though i have only ever really gotten aggressive something like 3 or 4 times not even. I guess im going to have to experiment this weekend to find out my perfect alcohol =D

Whiskey drunkness is my favourite, but it is not for every occassion.
It is a man's drink
For me tequila is the drink to have if I wanna PARTY, whiskey if I want to relx but still think clearly and beer if I wanna stupidify myself
