I haven't listened, but I just wanted to thank you for not trying to play it off like it's someone else's band and your just a fan. These posts are always welcome, and far more appreciated than people who act like it isn't their band.

right on i play drums, and i don't remember which video i linked to, but i do backup vocals on alot of things as well (if you look real close you can see i'm wearing a headset mic, like a backstreet boy!!!). i'm usually full of myself about my music, so it would give me no satisfaction to pretend it was someone else's band. in fact, i can't believe people actually do that. i guess if you really thought (or knew) that your band sucked...

I think their line of thought is people will be more likely to listen to it if it appears to be a recommendation instead of self-advertisement. If you're in a band there's no reason to not self plug, that's part of the whole shit. Usually those bands suck too.

it's interesting, but it seems more like a jamsession to me (althought I'm not in the best state of mind to make judgements right now )
nice playing, both of you
a bassplayer would be a nice addition and the vocals could definitely stand out more.

yeah, on the recordings so far i write and play the basslines. the sound guys were not affiliated with us that night. we can't seem to find anyone dedicated to working. we also really want someone to run samples, and had an idea to mic everything and run it through FX that the DJ/sample guy could manipulate. two of our friends talked to us about it for a month each without ever stopping by when they said they would, either of them. we just need to get out of the small town scene. i'm moving to new york in the fall if everything stays on track, and we are going to start really trying to get our shit out and tour. hoping new york will mean more musicians, and therefore at least a couple who will do the job!

Welcome to my disheartened past band life.... I would rather jam and write songs alone for purely my own enjoyment then have to go thru that B.S. scene again.... My advice: when you find dedicated people that actually DO what they SAY they are going to do and have the chemistry & talent, keep em' close and don't ever fuck them over.... They are a difficult and elusive bunch to find.... I gave up looking....

tell me about it. that's why it's still just me and the colonel. we've been jamming off and on for years, in a couple bands together, and then this happened. that's why we go up and play without anyone else, because we can and it works. it would be really nice if someone else ends up fitting in, tho.

for sure, finding a band, or additions to an existing band is hard as hell
I'm trying to find a band for a few months now, but without no success. Saw a few ads from bands that needed a guitarist, but I never liked the music enough to be dedicated

yeah, the biggest challenge seems to be finding people who are not only talented and dedicated, which is a total bitch on its own, but who write good songs/parts that original band members enjoy. since i write all of the bass lines, for now, the existing songs are tabbed so someone could learn them quickly. problem is, i know i would piss someone off really bad if they weren't playing exactly what the colonel or i wanted. the biggest reason schmood is going hella strong is because the colonel joined a band i was in a few years ago and was the first person to write a guitar part for one of my songs that didn't make me want to kill him. these were mostly songs i had written in jr. high/ high school, punky grungy bullshit (even though i still like them, i know it's nostalgia), a puppet band. dude was the first person to cut the strings and walk with me. that's what i want from a bass player/ whatever else, but i know it's unrealistic to expect. getting to a level where we could pay stage musicians to play parts we wrote would be great, but it would lack creative diversity.

oh yeah, i'm assuming you mean you couldn't become dedicated because of what the bands in the ads were playing? that's the POV i was responding to, anyway. speaking of that, i went to meet a guitar player and a singer looking for a bassist and drummer one time. this punk-type bassist friend of mine had them come over to his house and we made some crazy improv stuff to show them what we did. so then they played us one of their songs... SOUNDED LIKE FUCKING CREED!! no offense to anyone who might like them, but i really do wish death upon scott stapp, and the rest of them for that matter.

well good luck you're most likely never going to find new band members ever... (unless you hire a studio musician )
If you find a bassplayer, get back to your drumset and stick with that, don't want to be both at the same time. Let the bassplayer make a bassline for the song. Ofcoarse you can have suggestions, but write songs as a band. Otherwise you should just sit alone in a home studio playing every instrument by yourself.
Being in a band isn't what 1 person, or 2 persons want, pushing that upon the others. Being in a band is like a relationship where there should be a balance so every member can be happy with it. Sometimes compromises have to be made because you can't always put everything in a song that all members want. After a long time of playing together you're going to get more of a feel for each other, adjust to the other's styles, all will be better musicians overall, and therefor will be playing for the most of the time what feels right, not just for themselves, but also fot the band.

oh yeah, i'm totally fine with that. i just mean that it's hard to find anyone with a style that even fits what we are doing. i was in a metal band before and really enjoyed the basslines our bass player wrote, i just had to help with key adjustment (his ideas were great, sometimes a couple of notes were just a fret off or so, ear thing). i would only step in for a couple parts here and there if he had no ideas. and i let people give me ideas for drums. problem is that in schmood it seems to be harder to do than with a punk or metal band. plus, we like to do alot of improv noise stuff, and with the monitor PA set up we have (i'm assuming) it's hard for the people we have tried to keep any sort of coherence.

mostly, but you are forgetting about NIN, ministry, smashing pumpkins, nirvana, and several other bands that have 1 or 2 central song writers and, at times, rotating members. i would rather not have that, but it seems to be possible if no one is sharing the same vision as you. my favorite band is tool, and if i envy anything in this world it is the fact that they have only had one line up change (bass player), write songs AS A BAND, and everything is perfect (to my ears). i would love to find a common ground with 4 musicians, and hopefully will someday, but for now it's me and the colonel. i can't figure out how to turn italics off outside the quote, and it's really annoying me. why can't they just use html? sorry, that's off topic

ofcoarse there are a few (and I bet a lot more), but that doesn't seem like fun does it?
just above the text area you write in when you make a post is a small dropdown box where you can choose to use HTML in posts too
