I'm growing Pleurotus Eryngii (King Oyster) on agar. I have noticed that the media underneath the mycelium growth is turning orange or reddish-like color. Is this normal? I have added Hydrogen Peroxide to some of my petri dish cultures and they also show this color alteration. If anyone knows what's this, please let me know. Thanks

On the first page of this thread, I posted two different shiitake strains on agar. RR

I found this one this morning. It is shiitake with a new neighbor. Any ideas on who the neighbor is?

That neighbor is definitely a mold, it'll probably turn green in a day or two.

What I'm working on right now: (hope you like the christmas press n' seal)
Reishi - Ganoderma lucidum
Whitest densest mycelium I've seen so far. I've got two sawdust blocks almost ready for fruiting, I'm really excited, the reishi I see in stores is so ugly/brown/old that I never pick any up.
Phoenix Oyster - Pleurotus pulmonarius

Wine cap - Stropharia rugosoannulata
This one took off faster than all of them in the beginning but is now just sitting there. I love how vigorously it's taking to my grains though.
Shiitake - Lentinula edodes

Shimeji Beech - Hypsizygus tessellatus
The "neighbor" there in the bottom right sector is just the grain that shifted when I wrapped it up. In the short amount of time that it was sitting in the center enough mycelium stuck to also make a colony.
Psilocybin stuntzii

Stuntzii was a little harder to display than the others, I wasn't coloring my agar so it's harder to see, but it's my favorite so far, I love the rings.

It took six days to get to wher it is at, but I first noticed the green color at day two. I guess I just hoped it would go away...silly, silly me.

I really love the "papery" look that Ganoderma mycelium exhibits.
If it wasn't for that exact feature, I would have thought my Puerto Rican Ganoderma culture was mold.
The odd thing is that my Gano specimen has very aerial growth on the edges of the culture that reach skyward like cobweb but later thickens out to look just like your culture.

Where did you get the spores for your P. stuntzii culture?
There was a giveaway recently in Mush cult. User named ShockValue I think, he gave away a bunch of wild prints.

My reishi didn't look nearly as white on grains in the jars, it was very grey/light (took no effort to break it up), but when I transferred the grains to agar it took that look, also the sawdust blocks look like that.
