Dangers of Hunting
    #8322895 - 04/24/08 11:57 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

So Yesterday I went out hunting and stepped off the trail to photograph a common wood shroom  (maybe two feet off the trail) I took the pic and a man screamed at me to get off his propery Im tresspassing! I quickly apologized and he said as soon as my feet got off the trail it was his..he was a prick! I forgot to mention that he drove up in his truck and stared at my daughter and I for the longest time...And the next thing I want to warn against...about 5 days ago something bit me on the leg..crawled up my pants. I ignored it and by day 4 I was in the ER.. Pain, agony and a rash on fire or red blob, im being treated for brown recluse bite or tick bite with lyme, test results are not back yet. they cut it open with a scalpel and drew a cirlce around the red spot told me that if by today it grew out of the circle I would have to be admitted ..  its way out of the circle and I leave to go there at 5pm today...my hunting days are over for awhile... guys please pay attention to any bites you get out there. Im signing off for now...this is WV by the way.  ANd I hope to see you all, when I get back. wish me luck..

As a land owner I find it hard to understand why people are so possessive. Sure, some people litter and have no respect for the environment, but more often than not, it's those who strictly enforce the rule of no trespassing that are the worst offenders in that regard.

Good luck with the mystery bite, it would have been more dramatic if your post would have concluded with "ANd I hope to see you all, IF I get back. wish me luck.."

I sometimes lack the flair for the dramatics.. I think your right I should have said "if" I get back...lol it would have made a much better impact.

and also remember when you use "off" to be naked when you do it and before you put your pants on!

Develop that flair!!! You want to sound like a death defying explorer don't you!?!?!?!
I like to use a mechanical approach involving duct tape, long pants, long sleeve shirt tucked in... bandanna. It allows for much more sparse application of repellent, which I have a mild aversion to - of course I have a a much greater aversion to fucking ticks, chiggers, and mosquitoes.

Indeed, brown recluse bites can make you look like something from a horror movie took a chunk out of you. It was definitely a severely poisonous animal that bit you - hence the extreme inflammation and spreading of the immediate area. Lucky it wasn't a black widow, as you would experience mild-to-heavy nerve spasms and failures. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but if it indeed was a brown recluse, they will more than likely have to remove the area of inflamed tissue, as it will die anyway. Just be lucky that you caught it at an early state and that they don't have to amputate your leg

No worries, though. It could be worse. Hope you get better!

Combat boots and BDU pants, or just regular ones (although army pants are made for this sort of thing).

Blouse 'em and it gets tough for the little nasties to crawl up your drawers.

If this was some sort of public trail, I'd imagine it has an easement on either side, and that property's not actually his. But that's just a guess. Either way, what a prick, and what nice behavior around someone's kid.

Brown Recluse doesn't live in the brush thought...just doesnt happen...theyre called recluse cause they hide and are solitary....weird that you'd find one there....

Well They are found in old barns, basements in the dark and places like that. I know they can also be found say in a dark pile of dead twigs and things like that which can easily be found in any field, While not common very possible
