Little stinky, contaminated?
    #8310570 - 04/21/08 01:13 PM (15 years, 9 months ago)

I recently posted in regards to my first attempt at growing in a long time

The jars spoken of there (8 pf tek half pint PES Hawaiian) i believe have gone to hell completely so i have discarded them, mostly because (mind you they have been brewing for 2 weeks) and 3 days ago i started a whole new batch of B+, same jars etc etc, but not all the unfortunate conditions of previous mentioned (see above thread) and they, in three days, have much much more healthy looking growth than the others have in two weeks. and the growth definatly looks different, the new jars are like i see on pictures, etc etc, good stuff, the old ones (contaminated or just otherwise slow or defunct?) had white spots, much smaller, and wetter looking, not so bright as the new ones. Is it a difference in strain, or am i in fact cultivating something i dont want? I decided that in the off change something good was going on, which i dont think so, i stuck them outside under a bush, covered with some top soid. The whole cakes though were thouroughly cultivated with whatever, through and through, more noticable inside that toward the glass.

Oh also they stunk a little bit, some more than others, like... cheese or something

Next more important question. The new jars are (sealed) in the same environment as the others were (not so sealed) in a sterilite container... if its a contaminant what should i do to avoid cross contamination.

Also, I stored 8 of the new jars in this environment which i have regulated at 60% humidity, and 80%, and 8 in my attic which is not regulated by any means, but pretty humid and hot, the ones in my controled environment prospered 3 fold, not to say the others didnt, but not so much, so i put them in with the ones going well. Not sure if this info is useful or not.

THANKS!
