What I'm trying to say is that the only constant is change itself and it's necessary to creativity, exploration and growth. So Infected Mushroom has evolved, not everyone is going to like the new stuff. But don't just dump on it simply because they didn't just remix all their old albums. Give it a listen, you might like it on it's own merit.

Well, I am all for bands / djs / producers evolving as they grow as musicians. There is nothing wrong with trying new things, being expirementail, or radically changing your sound. However, when the sound you change into still sucks based on the merits of it's own, and not comparison to what they done in the past - it still sucks.

I always find it funny when people bitch that "OMG, I cant belive Adam Beyer has gone minimal now and stopped playing the banging techno he' played for the last 10 years" -- I dunno, if an artist stuck to the same sound for 10+ years - I'd get bored of it. Nothing wrong with evolving, changing and trying new things - but, some times where they end up simply sucks, and I would say IM firmly falls into this camp.

I could see where their music was progressing over the last few albums - and it progressed into a pile of shit. Not because they left their roots, or tried something new - but because what they are trying now, simply sucks.

In your opinion. And it seems like half the people in the thread are judging the entire album on the strength (hah) of the weakest track. I don't care too much for the rapping part, it's not that interesting. But there are several songs on their that do stand out and are quite enjoyable. I still maintain that sometimes people seem to like turning rabid on their favorite band, as if it makes them hip, an elite purist of the genre.

More bullshit posturing and less actual legitimate criticism in other words. I'm not going to try to convince anyone that the new IM album is good or bad, that's up to the individual to decide.. I just question the motivation behind some of the rather harsh invective leveled against a band. People seem to think that their band serves at their whim and it boggles my mind that they get so pissy about the slightest hint, real or imagined, of the smallest change or inadequacy.

there are a few good tracks in the album but as a whole the album is weak, i know its not psytrance and i know IM has said they're no longer a psy act, so i wasn't surprised with the new sound.
heavyweight is a killer track but forgive me and change the formality suck(in my own opinion), its not just artillery.

maybe this is their way to get more people into psytrance. people who like this one might check out the other albums and other psytrance acts etc

Perhaps its a way to discourage them. :smirk:

In my opinion, if you have to abandon a genre in order to get people listening to that genre, they probably aren't the type of people you want listening to it anyways.

Well, there is nothing wrong with creating cross-genre music as a means of opening it up to a wider audience.

Back in the day, there was FAR less genre-pigeon holing in the EDM scene as there is now. ie: Back when jeff mills had a radio show, he was playing industrial, alternative, techno, house - this really influenced Richie Hawtin (who was into Industrial), but he also ended up getting exposed to Detroit techno and Chicago house, and now he's one of the pioneers of the techno scene, so using other genres to open up other areas of music to people isnt nessicarly a bad thing.

For me, I came to EDM music from a punk musical interest, and it was acts like Atari Teenage Riot, Mindless Self Indulgence, etc that had a bit of that hardcore/punk-rock feeling to them combined with hardcore-EDM elements that acted as a bridge to hardcore, then psytrance / house / electro / techno.

Either way, I still dont like IM at all anymore, and not because they 'left their roots', but simply because I think what they are producing these days is just crap.

Then again, there isnt much in the psytrance scene I like anymore save a very small handful of producers / labels. (gooo Boshke beats!)

Becoming Insane, Heavy Weight, Suliman, Change The Formality, and Before, were all great songs. The intro's for some of them were kinda wierd but once the intro ended, the songs got really intense and euphoric. But their other CD, I'm The Supervisor was better. The thing is, you gotta have intense rolls goin on for it all to sound right. Not really tripping music. It's more bent around rolling. Total trance music.
