I agree with you entirely. There need to be incentives to stay in the country and provide jobs within the country. Failing businesses are a part of any economy, but if American companies are going under because they choose to remain within the borders employing US citizens then some serious work has to be done in congress. Moving overseas helps no one except the higher-ups of the corporation. Workers get fucked out of jobs, money is taken out of the economy, and CEOs get to stuff their billionaire pockets with more cash.

The point that I was putting forth, though (which, as I said, isn't based in any real analysis or study and is more rooted in exploring the issue out than any personal conclusions on the matter), is that such is an inevitability of the fact that the United States is not an island unto itself. I do believe that the American work force should not be outright sacrificed for the sake of an interconnected global economy, and that any American who is willing to work a full-time job should be able to sustain a reasonable, relative degree of livelihood.

People own corporations through stocks, and people benefit from corporations being competitive (lower prices, etc.).

Yes, but those are people with enough money in their pockets to be able to invest a bit in some stocks. What about the others who lost their jobs or careers because they were shipped off?
Anyone who has enough money to make ~30k in a year from some company's stock probably doesn't have to worry about finances too much, whereas there are a lot of people who would kill for a year of work at that pay.

if they're willing to kill, perhaps they're willing to get the education or training necessary to make themselves integral to an advancing, service-based economy.
seems a little less risky, imo.

Especially as living wages are going down.
