Agar substitutes??
    #830255 - 08/20/02 10:46 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Hello all....... I was taking a hike through the woods today and came across an excellent little patch of big gyms chillin on a log....... anyway i want to try and clone some of the bigger healthier looking ones but alas my agar supply has run out....... just to appease this hankering to clone these guys before they dry up, does anyone have any agar substitute recipes?? i was thinking a brf paste or a wheat flour past....maybe a mix of the two..... Would knox gelatin be usefull in anyway to my needs?? Any input appreciated! Thanks......

If I didn't have agar I would (because I have never used an agar sub.) Spawn a couple jars of rye or millet or some kind of grain with your best looking friend. Then when those are colonized spawn as many new jars as you want until you get the desired amount of grain spawn.

Whatever you use, peroxidate it to ensure cleanliness.
BRF paste, or paste of any flour really works.
Cardboard discs soaked in a slightly nutritious broth can work in a pinch.
Or just do a little bit of grain in a jar.
Or a test tube of a selective substrate, but I don't know what that would be for the jims. Innoculate it from the bottom, and if the sub is selective, only the desired mycelium will arrive at the top.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
