I definitely am a fan of "packing" before a trip.

I haven't started reading yet; I've been job hunting!

Spending money when I'm unemployed just encourages me to haul ass and find another job, heh.

This is an interesting point. I think that almost anyone under the age of 35 who was raised in America (more like 55 and under, but for the sake of argument) has a "racing mind". Our culture shapes us in such a fashion, so to be able to be "in the moment" can be really disturbing, and I agree, sometimes, for lack of a better word, boring.

It's taken me almost a year, but I'm to the point where there's tremendous fruit from being still and awake to myself. But after a lifetime of having the equivalent of 4 TV's going at once inside my head, it can still be a bit odd.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what Tolle teaches. As I said, I'm much more of a Finely person myself.

Peace

I read the power of now multiple times... and it made 110% sense to me.

I can go into the "now" anytime I want.

Is it just me, or is the "now" REALLY fucking boring? It makes no sense... it's just... nothing? I can spend 10 minutes in that state before I flip out and start using my mind to create something more fun.

No, the now is not boring if you are actually present. Boredom is a thought: a desire for something to be different about the present moment. That is not presence.
