Coco Coir Casing Question
    #8297360 - 04/17/08 06:02 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I've read up on Roadkills's Tek for using Coco Coir and I had a few questions if anyone can help me out...

I've read that more the casing depth will have a direct correlation to shroom height.

How much (in.) casing goes on the bottom?  On top of the substrate?

Should it go coco/verm mix first, then crumpled (or cut?) BRF cakes, Then more coco/verm mix, then gypsum?

How many cakes should I use for what size pan?

Any help, including links to previous post which answer my problem would be greatly appreciated, as I'm trying to buy some coco coir off the internet and also wondering how much i should buy...

Thanks for suporting my mycology experiment!

You have a huge mixup between the concepts of bulk substrate and casing.

You should read more into the issue.

PS: It is substrate depth not casing depth that correlates to fruit size.

Ok so that doesnt really answer any of my questions...

Bigger shrooms come from more cakes in the casing? Got it.

It should answer all your questions if you read up on the fact and if you don't do this you will never understand the processes and misinterpret the answers you get on here.

And as I said, shroom size depends on substrate depth, not number of cakes.

It just depends exclusively on how deep it is not the amount of cakes, 2 cakes in a small container can be deeper than 10 cakes in a very large one.

Alright.

So what would be the best casing be for BRF cakes?

None. Dunking and rolling gives the same results with much less problems.

What about spawning into a bulk substrate?
