new bodyweight exercise(for me at least)

ive never heard of anyone doing them, so i thought i would throw the idea out there for those of you who do alot of bodyweight exercises. as a few of you know im a big advocate of bodyweight exercises, and i was at the gym with a buddy of mine today, and i was at the pull up bar, and for some strange reason it just came to me, to flip upside down and try to to a pullup upside down while balancing up and down, not only is it a killer arm and shoulder workout, it worked all of my core muscles tremendously. i was only able to get 3 of them, when normally i can get nearly 20 handstand pushups.
i dont know what to call it, but its a killer BW exercise.
how about you guys share your favorite BW exercises. id like to hear what others are doing on a regular basis.

I've been making the most of the university's gym here during the school year (i.e. all the expensive weights that I could never afford at my disposal ), so I haven't been doing too much body weight work.
But, during the summer, I rock the pushups, pullups, jump-squats, chinups, hanging leg raises, and dips.
I should probably start working on handstand pushups this summer for shoulder work.
The good thing about bodyweight work is that it requires very little space / equipment. Also, you can get very ripped and lb-for-lb strong with these exercises.
With all the weight training I've been doing, my bodyweight numbers have dropped a little, but not that much, and I've gained alot of strength in moves such as ass-to-ground squats, deadlift, bench press, military press, rows, etc.
The inverted pullup (or whatever you want to call it) that you did is a really good one too. The first place I saw someone do it was on Ninja Warrior.
You should check out www.CrossFit.com, if you haven't already. I think I may start doing the CrossFit WOD this summer.

machines limit your results. they have a set path that your muscles get used to, and they do not always work the secondary muscles. compound weight exercises or bodyweight exercises are better IMO, they work more muscle groups together and balance growth, machines promote muscle isolation and can upset muscle growth equality.
i guess it all depends on what youre looking for, if youre a bodybuilder then obviously heavy weights and isolations work better, but for real life, practical strength i frown upon machines and isolation. i prefer density and equal growth to mass.
and i agree it is semi dangerous, but you need to know your limits and pull out before failure with this one, thats all.

i just started doing light weight, high rep machine work with my friend to help growth in my chest, its very dense, but it is slightly unproportionate to the rest of my upper body, for some reason im just not getting the mass that the rest of my body is putting on, i do shitloads of pushups, but my shoulders, lats and abs are a decent amount ahead of my chest. im only doing chest isolation long enough to catch my chest up to everything else.
i swear by bodyweight exercise man, i dont look ridiculously muscular or large, but i am fit, i look fit and i am STRONG. i prefer density and endurance, i dont want to be big. i would like to get to 175 and that is it. 15lbs to go i do BW work every single day, numerous times a day. and youre absolutely correct, you dont need a gym, or anything else to do a complete workout with BW.
handstand pushups are a killer exercise as far as back, abs and shoulder work go, expecially shoulder.]
yeah ive seen crossfit, good resource, im going to start incorporating some of their stuff into my workouts.
also, if you havent been doing them or even heard of them, i highly suggest wrestlers bridge and gymnastics bridge, they are amazing back, ab and neck workouts, they also promote flexibility and eliminate back pain. they work other muscles too, youll know which ones.

You need to read the "Naked Warrior" by Pavel Tsatsouline. It is full of great bodyweight exercises. I prefer push-ups and squats myself.
Along with Crossfit also look at www.dragondoor.com

The only problem with body weight exercises is that you can't increase the weight.
The major "bodyweight" types of exercises I do involve balance.
For instance, simply try standing on one leg with your eyes closed. Once this gets easy, do a squat on one leg, with eyes closed. Hanging leg lifts are great for your abs. For shoulder workouts you can simply walk on your hands. When this gets too easy, stand on your hands, and do a pushup (e.g. military press). Start out using the wall, later remove it.
Although it's hard on the wrists, I can walk on my hands around the room, pause, touch my head to the floor and press back into the handstand. It's great on the shoulders.
-------------------- ...the whole experience is (and is as) a profound piece of knowledge. It is an indellible experience; it is forever known. I have known myself in a way I doubt I would have ever occurred except as it did. Smith, P. Bull. Menninger Clinic (1959) 23:20-27; p. 27. ...most subjects find the experience valuable, some find it frightening, and many say that is it uniquely lovely. Osmond, H. Annals, NY Acad Science (1957) 66:418-434; p.436

sure you can add weight, with a rope and some free weights you can add weight to any BW exercise. i havent begun adding weight to most of my exercises yet, as i have been going for distance. im about to start adding 10-15lbs to each exercise.
i love handstand pushups and walking around on my hands. its a great workout as well.
