Tub in tub terranium? Good or bad?
    #8287486 - 04/15/08 04:02 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

Dont slap me too hard with a fish if this already something that has been asked a million times. But my planned setup involved a larger tub of water with fish tank heaters set at fruiting or vegetative heat levels and a small tub or container sat in the bigger tub of water. I then adjusted the lid on the bigger tub to the point where I got 90% humidity.
Anyone experimented with this set up. Pros / Cons....

Dude this set up is mad simple. Put water in big tub, adjust temp using fish tank heaters, not just for mushroom climate but so the water evaporates. Put smaller tub in big tub (I might use gallon jars!). Adjust lid on big tub till you can maintain desired RH. Walla. This is so easy Im wating for a moderator to tell me this is all wrong and in detail how It will kill me slowly in my sleep.

36 gallon with a 16 gallon inside of it (or 6 1 gallon jars)

well i have a large tub with water and aquarium heater with a slightly smaller one with damp perlite for rh and i also use a fogger in a container with a hose coming off into the fc you can see a pic of it in my gallery. i would use the water in the big tub for rh since it gets quite dirty

GAH DONT DO IT! i just failed on a number of grows until i realized that the problem was the big vat of contaminated water my FC was sitting in. Unless your box is air tight contaminated water will find its way in and then its over. Get a heating blanket.

But I planned on making a 200ppm mixture of water and bleach so would that help?

I could adjust the lid with poly filled holes. Enough holes to let out excess moisture but keep up high enough?

micro pore tape works well on the wholes it allows fae and keeps in the Rh but im sure poly fill would do the trick too

polyfill or tape will not work, moisture will still find its way in. It has to be sealed to prevent this.

wait what? Why do you want to create this TiT? A TiT fruiting chamber? A fruiting chamber does not require heat. Room temperature is fine, below 70 (not too far below tho) works fine also.
As for humidity and FAE, perlite and many small holes work fine for cakes...bulk subs love monotubs...
Not to shoot you down in flames too hard, but IMO you are juts taking one of the pointless, unreliable things in this hobby (a TiT incubator) and stretching its uselessness into other stages of the lifecycle. Not that its a bad concept, like a floating (or partially submerged) garden lol.

But seriously folks...Room temps and tubs themselves are fine. You may just have to drill and stuff a few holes thats as hard as it has to get, no monitoring temps/water levels. Or dealing with stagnant water (yay)

a TiT (tub in tub) setup should be used for incubation and is not recommended for fruiting. Just use 1 tub.. fill it with a few inches of damp perlite. fan and mist. simple is sometimes better. I'm not saying it wont work.. its probably just easier and maybe less contaminate prone to heat your setup with a small ceramic space heater and heat the room rather than just the terrarium.

good luck

You guys and your fuckin avatars.

Yeah thank you all once again for replying this information is priceless to me.

I think I need to stay away from anything that has to do with extra water. Im gonna guess that higher RH is related to blooms of bacteria for example your bathroom after a shower. So if were to raise the humidity (not in the monotub) in the general i would also be raising the amount of mold and what not in the general area.

I've been sold on monotubs for longest just being a noob I guess. Right now my minds stuck on making sure the substrate can hold enough water. Ive been calculating to have enough verm to hold enough water for atleast 1/2-1/3 total crop at 100BE i think, or maybe I was doing th enumbers after 200BE. And I plan on dunking so I might aim for 1/3 at 200BE. Who else does this?

id say stop number crunching BE ratios and just throw together a monotub lol its simple enough for a 5th grader to do
