Some of my high school friends are Grandpas now and that makes me old enough. But I decided never to reproduce, so becoming a granpa is immpossible. I'm pretty sure theres a few other grandpas here though.

I'm old enough to be a grandparent, but kids are for other people to have. I already have a big kid to look after - Me. And Me takes all the time and money I have.

At the prime of my middle-age, I look at parents as suckers. Fools. I pity them. I see what they go through: tons of hard work. It's a treadmill. I've seen it many times. And I never bought into it. My niece and nephew are almost fully grown now, and I adore them. I love to see the world through their eyes. And I thank god they're not mine.

I'm fully aware that I'm not a complete person. And I don't care. I'm as complete as I need to be. Kids are wonderful...as long as someone else takes them home at the end of the day. I don't want any little copies of myself. One of me is more than enough.

One day you wake up, and even though it's your day off, the kids are up, and they want to watch Finding Nemo for the 300,000th time, and you can't go hang with the guys, because they're all changing diapers, too, and working off their honeydew lists. And you can't have a beer, because your wife hates it when you drink, and anyway, you have to get ready to go to her parents' house for supper, and you still have to mow the lawn before it gets too hot outside...and on and on and on. And then it hits you: this is going to go on for 18 more years.

Somebody has to be lazy and irresponsible, and I volunteered long ago.

So, here's a salute to those of you who perpetuate the species: SALUT! You do the heavy lifting, so that people like me can take it easy and rest in the shade with a cold one. I thank you.

  I love the attitude LD!

I actually chose my path as a childless individual out of a sense of responsibility.  I fully believe that all our problems as a species are due to overpopulation and I chose long ago not to contribute to it.  I laugh at all these environmental nuts who want to go out and save the world so they buy a hybrid car to drive their 3 kids around in!
:smirk:

Also, much of what you said is true.  Theres a bit of joy I take in the selfish nature of not having kids.  My wife and I have travelled and seen more of the world then anyone with our incomes could ever do if they had a family.
