Dude, mono tubs work with small amounts of FAE that is how the humidity is kept up by small amounts of air in a in closed space, the mycelium generates metabolites in turn generate heat, the heat releases moisture from the bulk thus humidifying the tub.

four thumb sized holes on each corner of the tub bout a inch above where your casing will be and four across the top, two on each side will provide more then enough FAE. Your weak pinset was more then likely just poor MS genetics. Closets still allow fresh air to exit and enter.

~Hybrid, excess heat will produce more metabolites...It is not the metabolites themselves producing the heat. The heat is from the mycelium metabolizing nutrients. Yeah? Not dissin you that's just the way I understand it. ~Pixie~

No worries Psuper.

Yes the mycelium produces metabolites as it consumes the bulk, as it eats it generates heat. The heat from the mycelium metabolizing its nutrient source causes water evaporation from the bulk sub, that water evaporation in a environment with a small amount of air will raise the overall humidity in conjunction with the room temperature it causes enough water evaporation to humidify the tub.

No need for fanning or misting manually as long as the mono tub is set up properly this means it is sealed at the top tightly and no excess amount in holes or you'll be lowering the humidity, cubensis are very forgiving (Tahoe has proven this) I've had tightly sealed tubs with no holes still produce crops (floppy stems) but they will still grow without proper FAE, it's the humidity people want, you still need FAE to get the desired humidity so that is why the polyfill/micro pore tape/tyvek covered holes are needed.

So, to shorten this out abit.

Small air volume in a moist environment creates humidity, mycelium generates heat which causes water evaporation to raise the humidity some more. Deadatdusk tub did not suffer from a lack of FAE but more then likely poor genetics or low humidity. A closet is not air tight.

Humidity in the tub is undoubtedly sufficient. You must consider that not all closets are created equal, and my monotub was placed in such a way the Co2 would've had little if any means of escape DESPITE monotub hole placement. I'm not saying no FAE is occurring, but it's definitely less than it should be. I've noticed significant improvements in taking my monotub out of the closet and placing it next to a window for a few hours a day.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but I think closet grow spaces are better reserved for manually fanned FCs. I think the ambient moving air in a larger room is extremely beneficial to a monotub.

perhaps you're using too much polyfill? It could hinder air exchange.

Meh, I use Tyvek on my monotub with no FAE problems.

Why not just put a small fan in the closet set to run for 1/2 hr every 3 hrs? Or something like that. As long as it doesn't dry it out this should provide plenty of FAE.
