Windows file sharing woes

I'm hoping one of you can help me pinpoint this issue.
First off, I'm working here with permissions on shared drives/folders, NOT permissions on the NTFS volume itself.
On computer #1, when I right-click on my newly-created X: drive, and go to the sharing tab on the properties for that drive, I can then enable the share. On this computer, when I view the share permissions, the default is set to full access for my user name. This is great.
On computer #2, I can do the same thing on a new Y: drive or Z: drive, but the share permissions default to read access for everyone. This is no good.
Every time my PC restarts, I have to mount the X/Y/Z: drive(s), and re-share them on the network. On computer #1, this is a matter of turning it on since the permissions are correct by default. On computer #2, for each of the two drives I must go to permissions, remove the entry for "everyone" and then add my user to the list with full access.
I'm trying to eliminate those few extra steps, and am trying to find how these default permissions are set.
All drives have the same NTFS security permissions on the whole drive (full access for system and my user).
Computer #1 is running win xp media center edition, and when it was installed I created only one administator account.
Computer #2 is running win xp pro, and when it was installed, both an administrator and a limited user account, were created. Simple file sharing may have been on, and user's documents and settings folders may not have been private.
Maybe someone reading this is not as clueless as I am? I have a feeling there's some hidden place where default permissions for shares are set, however I couldn't find it in group policy editor or other places I'd expect.
Thanks In Advance.

On PC#2 is there an account with the same name and password as PC#1? Also make sure that when you map the drive from PC#1 you select the reconnect at logon option.

Does the same user own the shared directories?
I'm curious what you eventually discover as I have had some strange problems with shares in the past.

Why are you not using simple file sharing, or do you need to have password protection on folders?

> The drives I am sharing on both PCs have the same permissions, where my user account has full access as well as the system account. No other users have access.
It is the owner of the shared folders on the filesystem that I interested in. I've seen oddness in the past when administrator owned the objects being shared. Just because a user account has full access does not mean that the user account owns the objects.

Might check the following link:
http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Share-Permissions.html http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040
I also saw this blurb when digging:
Quote:
If you check the Sharing tab on any shares you may have the default setting is READ only. this overrides the Security settings (security tab).
I changed mine to full control and hey presto my users can now access docs and they are not eread only ...
