Life Changing Books

Hey, I'm new to this forum and have read alot of back posts. I've noticed that unlike similar forums there seem to be alot of mature intellects here. I've come to a point in my life where I need a change. What books have you read that were life changing?

Hmm... Jane Goodall's Reason for Hope was not necessarily life changing for me, but it was probably the most inspirational and spiritually uplifting book I've ever read.

It's an easy, interesting read, and not too long either. Give it a shot!

Disil,
Try 'Nausea', by Jean Paul Sartre. Excellent book.
Also, Brave New World by Huxley for a classic. I read it earlier in my life but have recently re-read it.

No one can compare with Sartre, if philosophy or existentialism are what you crave.

I would like to say that the book which most altered my life was written by Sartre, Camus, Rimbaud, Melville, Thoreau, Joyce, Maugham, Lowrey,Vonnegut, or Pynchon, or was even Jack Kerouac?s, "On the Road," but alas, sadly, it was none of these.

The book that probably had the most profound impact on me, because of the young age at which I read it, was Hunter S. Thompson?s, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." It combined a high degree of accessibility with a velocitous prose style -- the likes of which, I have yet to see matched -- and displayed a high-level of intelligence as well as astute cultural references.

It opened up whole new world of life-style possibilities to me, and it was all sort of downhill from there?

PS: I also enjoyed the book's humor...

Still one of my personal faves. I own both Thompson movies on DVD, and I like that one the best. I feel it captures the humor of Thompson's writing better.

I like how Neil Young opens it too. He was a good choice for musical director.
