fuck windows for just a file server, way too much overhead, this works wonderfully for me, once you get it configed, and is accessible from my two windows desktops, my macbook, my linux box, 2 xbox's with XBMC, and all I have to figure out is how to set up a DLNA server for my PS3.

k well, will i need to reformate? or can i just stick in a new hardrive to hold the os and it will access the other 2 that are in there?
i just have barely used linux and i know zero code so i figured networking with it might be to much for me.
let me know the easiest way to be able to access that beast via the net and not just home network.

no it wont, all it is for is a NAS, the entire thing installs on a 64mb partition, it is tiny. You can install it on a usb stick and boot it off of that too. If you need to torrent, why not run that off of your desktop pc, then transfer the completed files to the storage server, thats what I would do.
You dont have to reformat the hdd that already have stuff stored on them, unless they are formatted NTFS, then you will have to reformat, as linux support for NTFS is still very unstable. Just put the files in a backup, reformat, and recopy, I've been doing that with a little over a TB of info all weekend, getting the server set up.
I still have to figure out how to set up the FTP server so that I can access from other peoples houses and my friends can download all th shit I have on there...~130GB of music, ~300GB of movies, ~200GB of apps and OS, plus lots of other random goodies.
