A (better?) suggestion

I have a suggestion how we could easily differentiate the topics in a forum, without splitting it into 5, 10 or 50 new forums.

For instance to "solve" the Hardware forum suggestion:
If someone posts something that has to do with hardware in the Mushroom Cultivation forum, then he should include the word *HARDWARE* in the thread title.

Or if someone posts a cooking thread in the Creative arts forum, then he should include the word *FOOD* in the title of the thread.

Then very easily a script can be written, that filters out all those threads containing the trigger word for a particualar topic group.

As an example see here:
This script filters all the logs in the Grow log forum, that have the word *COMPLETED* in their title.

What do you think?

My true opinion is that, aside from a possible Cooking Forum, I don't really think we need any new forums. Most of the forums can already be searched pretty effectively, especially on technical issues. Also, how many different spellings of "*h4rdwere#" do you think this motley group can generate?

If you want to modify the board script -- and I can understand why you may not want to, as all mods need to be tracked, and re-written on updates -- I would alter the Search page so that it can generate a SQL query that could search for keywords and usernames.

Mods and admins could change the title...

True, and I don't wish to be accused of standing in the way of progress, but isn't his going to clog up the visual look of things with all these *cooking*, *hardware*, *postwhoring* labels in the title? Could these be buried in the text instead of the title, since they are for search purposes?

I don't know? I just have a nagging uneasiness about this idea. Something indefinable, which I can't quite put my finger on. Hmm...

I guess I don?t have any great reasons why it shouldn?t be done, but then I don?t have any great reasons why it should be done either. If you know what I mean?

i think we should give it a try, if it dont work, we could return to our way of doing things now. , i think his idea just may work, but we wont know till we try. lets give it a 2 week trial run?

I think the word in the subject line is the way to go. This was a search isn't as needed as a user can just skim down the list of posts and find an interest.

I think the problem is, that any modifications to the board, will require careful tracking, and then have to be re-inserted into subsequent upgrades. Also, any modification that requires the creation of additional database fields will complicate upgrades immensely, for export/import, and require significant extra scripting...
