Anyone else here prefer sobriety?

I've quit everything. I haven't had a drink in months, and it's been over a week since my last toke. I can't see myself going back. I am tired of those drugs.
My biggest hurdle in regards to letting go of substances like weed and alcohol is the socialization. It seems like in many social situations alcohol and weed is provided to "loosen people up" and to help people feel more comfortable by providing a buzz.
I will hang with people who smoke and drink, but I notice sometimes I feel a little left out of the socialization, because I'm not in the same headspace per say.
Anyone else here sober? How do you feel about being sober in intoxicating social situations? I personally find the social situation to be enough of a buzz as it is.
(I will still take psychedelics on occasion)

Can't say that I do, I very much like to smoke some pot or have a drink or two, or three or four in the evening.
Sometimes I do go a week or so without smoking/drinking/psychedelics, just to put myself back into neutral.

Thanks, I love it too and can't take credit for its lurid beauty; got it online a few years ago at some art website.
on topic: I've definitely been going through some mental/emotional crap since I've been sober. I was using weed like crazy for years as a mood stabilizer, until it started making me feel worse. I hope everything balances out soon though, and I think it will, since I'm still in the detox phase.

i'm sober except for cigs.
i quit because drugs made me crazy, so i'm very happy being sober, because now i don't have to deal with being crazy.
its funny the other night i asked my brother why he quit using drugs (i had never asked him before), he said because they make you gay. i persisted and he said because they made him delusional, and he didn't like it.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I met a really cool guy a few weeks ago who is into the whole total sobriety thing (including no coffee, no painkillers, etc) as well as helping the poor and not swearing and all that. He's basically the ultimate Good Person (and I ordinarily hate people like that, but he's just so GOOD that I can't help but like and admire him). I kind of stepped back and looked at myself, and it hit me that I'm doing a lot of negative things without really thinking. Since then I haven't had any alcohol nor have I smoked anything (though I was never a heavy smoker so it's not a big thing) and I've tried to cut back on my cursing too. Not that words are inherently good or bad, but honestly, why do I need to preface anything I say with a negative word?
Honestly, the only intoxicating chemicals I think I will ever take from now on are LSD (at least once, because I haven't tried it yet and I have some in the freezer right now) and possibly E again someday, although I hope I can figure out how to make myself happy enough that I will not want to.

That's really interesting guys; I used to have the same problem: I couldn't sleep without pot. And if I slept without it, my dreams were so violent, dark and strange that I didn't see the point in having them.
But when I started having problems with marijuana and then quit, my sleep quality improved DRAMATICALLY. Sleeping feels so rewarding to me now, like I get so much more out of it then I ever have. And my dreams aren't so terrifying anymore; they're still crazy but I am more conscious during them.
It's just weird, how it flipped on me like that.

I say screw it all, we are all gonna die. Experience as much as you can and live life to the fullest while your here. You only get one chance. Thats not to say you need to be an ass to people or be a 'bad' person, but why deny yourself the things that only life can offer, good or bad, it's all an experience and there are no do overs. So be smart, be open minded, and use but don't abuse.

I see what you're saying, and that's how I've always thought. Now I feel more like being in a natural state is the best way for me.
Using artificial aids to feel certain ways just doesn't appeal to me anymore. If I'm on E and I feel happy and I love everything, well that's great, I like feeling that way. But it doesn't mean anything. Once it wears off I feel the same way I did before. I don't want to need anything to feel good, and I'm working on that. Even naturally occurring drugs don't really appeal to me anymore, I feel like they are taking me in the opposite direction, away from clarity and real happiness.

I'm kind of in the opposite state right now.
I've been sober for over 4 months, but not really by choice. (Aside from tobacco because I am a straight up nicotine fiend). But I recently moved to bumfuck and here in bumfuck I haven't been able to find weed anywhere. Now, I've been smoking weed more or less every day or 3 times a day since I was about 15. So that's 11 years of virtually nonstop pot smoking, and I haven't so much as touched a bud in almost 5 months. Which is a pretty big deal.
But it's not like I need to smoke pot. I've done perfectly fine without it. It's just that sometimes, I really, really, really want to.. but can't, which is frustrating. Sometimes after coming home from a long hard day at work... a fat bong rip is just what the doctor ordered. Now, I do realize the other side of it too, pot.. like anything.. can be abused.. and when done in excess (which I am well acquainted with) becomes less of an "enhancement" and more of a "fuel". There is that pot haze that every stoner is familiar with.
But used in moderation ganja is a wonderful gift from god. That's how I see it. You want to talk about being in a natural state... me... in a forest... munching on some nuts and berries... puffing on a spliff of dank around a fire and building a yurt out of sticks. That's natural. What's not natural, is.. people driving cars, in the city, going to work for some fortune 500 corporation.
It's all about intentions. Used as a crutch, anything can become detrimental, even pot. But I consider my drugs sacred, and I try and treat them as such. Shamans in the Amazon and elsewhere have used Ayahuasca for their spirit journeys and religious ceremonies for thousands of years. I use mushrooms in a very similar fashion. They are a catalyst for my spiritual growth. Can I grow spiritually without mushrooms? Sure, I do all the time. But used as a tool for enhancement and development, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. And I have a great time while on them. Pot, I see as more of an enhancing plant, a medicine. Because, well.. it is a medicine. A very wonderful plant indeed with thousands of practical uses. It helps me soothe the savage beast within and provides some level of introspection. It is a luxury, like many other things in life. I meditate daily and no doubt that is a wonderful tool for my mental clarity and focus and exploring within. But I feel like pot is only a detriment (for me) when used chronically and mindlessly, used in moderation it is an amazing herb to 'take the edge off'. I believe in the healing power of many herbs when used in conjunction with a healthy diet and mind. But the universe put that plant on Earth and life is for enjoying, and I enjoy it.
But that's just me. Drugs effect everyone differently as far as I can tell, and some people don't need them. That's cool, everyone has free will of choice. Different strokes for different folks. There is certainly nothing wrong with sobriety, but I do not take for granted the preciousness of altered states of consciousness either. Just don't LIVE in those states. You need balance.
As far as social interaction goes, I do tend to function better in a group while sober. Pot tends to make me more introverted. For some people it does the opposite. Alcohol, I do not like, ever since I was about 18 and drank way to much of it way to often. As far as I'm concerned it's poison, but I do indulge once every blue moon.. in moderation of course. Alcohol is another beast entirely, one that has some of its own benefits but it widely over-abused in our culture. I do understand where you are coming from though with that whole... people using it a social crutch. But things are just neutral and they only become good or bad when you attach a polarity to it.
That turned into an essay, but that summarizes how I feel on this subject. I could probably go on for hours. But I'm rambling and on 48 hours without sleep (no drugs).

I totally agree with that. My own problem with weed was that I was not using it as a sacrement, like I do with mushrooms or LSD and like you describe. I was nullifying myself with it to the point where it started biting back at me, becoming abrasive. Maybe one day I'll be able to enjoy it in moderation but until then I'd like to get it all out of my system and see how I feel then.

Yes that is exactly what I was talking about. When smoking weed becomes less of a sacrament and more of a chronic pot smoking.... "I do it because that's what I do every day" sort of thing, with no real method behind the madness. Then it just becomes a haze and you build a tolerance and it just doesn't have the same magical properties. A break can do wonders. I neglected to mention I've smoked pretty much every day for the past 11 years, aside from a few week long breaks here and there to "clear my head". It helps you appreciate it that much more. But coming back into it this time, my longest break ever.. I will do my best to respect it and not abuse it. For pot is easy to abuse.. unlike mushrooms.. if you take those all the time they will kick you in the astral ass and make you go loopy and make it KNOWN they are sacred, at least for me. It's all about finding the balance. Now I do mushrooms maybe, twice a year.
And yeah.. that first hit is going to send me spiralling into psychedlia

So true. With every drug I've indulged in, there comes a point of "overdoing it," even with psychedelics. I seem to have a hard time discovering what the balance is unless I go too far, which pretty much guarantees I will be given a dramatic lesson in moderation and balance on the soul level that pushes me back the other direction.

I don't drink, or smoke anything (well Salvia once in a blue moon), or drink caffeine, or eat refined sugar.
I did a lot, I mean A LOT of cocaine, speed, ecstasy, pot and alcohol in my early twenties and I think I used up my lifetime quota.
I'm even slowing down the number of mushroom trips from once a month to 6-10 times a year.
I much prefer sobriety
