Haha...
The peanuts weren't salted or anything. I'm not going to keep constantly feeding him (or her... I say "him" due to habit)... he has to learn to how to gather his own food. I'm not really that worried about it, though... a squirrel will find something to eat if he really needs to. Especially in a dense suburb like the one I live in.
Food isn't his problem.. it's the rampant cats and dogs. But more than anything else, fucking cars.

Footage of Peanut the squirrel

He's still with us. I think he's going to make it on his own.
I was able to pet him today. With a glove on.

Well. I have some bad news.
I was bringing my son out to the car because we were all about to go somewhere. I get up to the door and see behind my back wheel... the squirrel.
Now before you think I ran his ass over, rest assured that I did NOT. It was very obvious from his head injury (a small hole - probably two, I wasn't trying that hard to examine his smelly dead body) and the wet fur (from a salivating animal) that he succumbed to either a dog or a cat. Not to mention the fact that I would have seen him earlier in the day when leaving to go somewhere else.
Honestly, I have only known cats to do things like this - that is, kill something and leave it somewhere. I rarely see dogs playing with their prey like cats tend to do. Perhaps it was that cat that wanders around my house all the time... it could have been a possum or raccoon. Who knows.
Anyway, let us all take a moment to remember the young squirrel who lost his mother too early, leaving him unwise to the ways of the suburban animal world. This is the circle of life.
He was given a proper burial.
In memory of Peanut the squirrel.

Life feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on life.

Sorry to hear about Peanut.
We had a squirrel named peanut once. It was found and brought to us by a friend in hopes my wife would care for it. She did. Bottle fed it puppy formula etc... Peanuts were by far it's favorite of foods too. I think it's the fat reward from little effort due to the easy shells. I gave it Brazil nuts a couple of times. Nearly drove him nuts trying to get to the goodies. lol
Eventually when he was old enough we moved his cage outside. After a week of adjustment we opened the door. He came and went for about another week before moving on into the woods for good.

I remember a while back there were a bunch of little squirrel babies in my front yard. They were adorable, and they're mother had died or abandoned them, because they would grab onto your shoes, and give you affection if you would go near them.
The people at the shelter we took them to said they would not have survived the winter without their mother, and that they turn to humans for help if their mothers abandon them or die.
They were the most adorable little creatures... I wish they would stay like that forever and be able to sustain themselves. Just having them play with my shoelaces, and climb up my pant legs was the cutest thing on earth. Hands down.
