classical music/albums/pieces thread?
    #8247062 - 04/06/08 03:24 PM (16 years, 13 days ago)

Hey,

Does anyone have any great classical music they'd care to post? With maybe a brief description about it? I'm really wanting to get my teeth into some really decent classical pieces (that could sound wrong!) but haven't a clue where to start. Besides it could compliment the Indie/Ambient music threads? Or has this been done before?

Any recommendations/offerings would be great, thanks  :crymeariver:

:inlove:

Verdi & Rossini, very good

Puccini is very good as well.  Italian opera is awsome.

If you like straight piano, check out Chopin.  He is king.

You know one great thing i used to do a lot was go to random performances. I lived on a college campus and right next to the performing arts center where they had the recitals, symphony's and what not. I heard some of the best music of my life in that place! And they even give you a pamphlet with the names of the pieces they play. Good memories.

I'd check out Bach's Brandenburg Concertos and the Goldberg Variations. Glenn Gould doing Bach is tits. Check out the attached file.

Y'all motherfuckers ain't got shit on Beethoven, yo. The part from 1:34 to 2:40 is one of the most violently passionate romantic classical pieces that I've ever listened to.

Thanks everyone - gutted that alot of this is hard/impossible to find for download but gives me a reason to save some and get myself down the 'owld CD emporium!

Special thanks to onemorerobot and fish50 for uploading, I really recommend everyone downloads Fratres by Part (don't know how do to the umlaut thing!) - really good. But that's probably me - think I err on the sparser side when it comes to classical

Awesome dude.  I have it on MP3 player right now.  I was listening to Chopin on my travels today.

This thread is going to turn into a Chopin fest!

Here is another of my favorites by him, the Revolutionary Etude (Op 10 No 12). wiki It was written when his native Poland was at war with Russia.

I want to throw a couple in but i'm not sure they are strictly classical since they're both contemporary pieces.
I was hoping you'd let it slip,,, i don't think they're too out of place here but i am no expert.

Ah Yorkshire, I know some of that place pretty well (only some - it is the biggest county after all!

Nah man, all welcome. Giving it a listen now - pretty sweet, I think i'm more a fan of the more minimal stuff type so is all good! Is it two pieces together? (edit: whoops, posted before your second post, Mikeyyork) As for whether it's classical or not, I dunno! I was listening to some Steve Reich earlier, is he classical? If he is then I guess yours is too!

orchestrated tellytubbies, now that would be something!

thanks for the other uploads too, DieCommie and Phishe! He's not bad this Chopin fella! Looks pretty focussed/intense fella in that pic.

Liszt and Chopin rule, in general. Debussy is really cool 'impressionist' type stuff (even though he didn't like being referred to as that). Mendelssohn's piano concerti are amazing and a little solo piano piece called 'spring song' (op. 62) is really nice. All of those mentioned have loads of amazing material though. And Beethoven of course...

Also Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition is awesome. Its approximately 30 minute piano solo with small movements that represent different paintings, returning every few movements to 'promenade' which is like strolling through the exhibition from one painting to the next. Very cool and impressive tune.

Enjoy the wonders of classical music!
