I don't understand their culture. Im sure an Iraqi would find the idea of going to New York kind of scary as well.

Of course i wouldn't step foot their now, after we bombed it to the ground and reduced it to one of the most insane war zones on earth.

you don't slaughter a turtle, you kill it. a slaughter implies killing (people/animals) in large numbers, like a massacre.

Is this turtle bordering on extinction because the Palestinians kill the occaisonal one that they catch and drink its blood? Or is it because more industrialized nations with their huge fishing trawlers drown thousands of them each year, and kill even more by throwing trash into the sea?

Unfortunately they probably didn't have much choice in terms of releasing it considering its value in the region. These don't exactly look like rich commercial fisherman. It would be nice though if they could change there method of slaughter to something a little bit more humane.

I can't personally put any blame on them for catching and killing a sea creature though even if it is endangered, thats what they do for a living, its how they feed themselves and their families, and humanity has been doing it for quite a long time.

Edit: Also...I would consider it different if they spotted a turtle and chased it down for 10 nautical miles hurling harpoons at it in a sole attempt to harvest its precious precious turtle neck.

Yeah was just gonna say. So you guys are all saying if killing a turtle could put guaranteed food on your family's plates, you wouldn't? In that part of the world, its about survival. And I'm sorry, but if I were in their shoes the survival and wellbeing of my family and I would take precedence over an endangered turtle.

That is *hardly* what i'm talking about. We see this video and we get pissed off and think its tragic, yet we aren't starting any wars over it.

Yet if WE were the ones killing the turtle, and they had some sort of relation to it/reason to keep it alive (as we do) there would likely be some violence over it.
