Lightscribe DVD burners - Anyone have experience?

Hello, I'm looking into getting a DVD burner with lightscribe.
It looks more like a novelty but I do a go bit of labeling.
Has anyone used a drive with lightscribe? Any thoughts, opinions?
Thanks! Lana

One thing I don't like about this is that it takes from 20-30 minutes to lightscribe one disk! And it only does greyscale. A labeling printer might be smarter.

Like Anno said, I used mine once.
It took about 20 min and produced a very light, greyscale image. I'd rather use marker, lightscribe blows.

I like mine for the silk screen texture it produces, at first they only had light military green colored disks, but now different colors of disks are out there. http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/14/verbatim-adds-background-color-to-lightscribe-discs/
I would have to say stay away from the HPdvd 640 burner. they tend to last me about 8 months, then they either quit burning or reading, so far HP has gave me new free ones, but when I have to buy it, I will go to another brand.

Aside from the excessive amount of time it takes to burn the image, the media cost is roughly 3 times that of normal blank discs, as you have to buy special LightScribe capable discs. Definitely not worth it in my opinion.

Anno knows. Trust the wisdom! They simply aren't worth the investment in cost for media or time.

I bought a computer w/ a lightscribe burner in it. Didn't even know what lightscribe was, it just came with the machine. Used it a couple times and wasn't impressed. Don't waste your money buying one on purpose.

I use Nero to do my LightScribe labels, and you could choose from thee settings. The light setting is the fastest, and it looks just as good as dark. In my opinion- it's not bad.

It totally sucks. It's a cheap black and white image that looks like it was carbon copied at best.
I'd rather stick with a sharpie.
Plus, sharpies personalize the cd anyway in a cool little way.

While not practical, I found it to be amazing none the less. One of my friends has a drive.

the key is the image you use to start with, if you know what your doing you can get it as dark as you want it. I really like mine, i hate my hand writing, makes things very organized.
