Mazatapec outdoors
    #818107 - 08/15/02 12:42 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

2 weeks ago because someone thought it couldn't be done. My friend took 1lb of brown rice and put it in a hole in the ground 6". Then he sprayed 5cc of Mazatapec spores into the pile. then he poured another lb of rice onto the topand covered it loosely with dirt and pine straw. He then poured a gallon of water into the hole. every two days he watered the hole. Today(t+2weeks) he went out and brushed away a bit of the dirt to check the progress.no shit the whole thing had colonized to a white fluffy mess. there were even some redish purple pins forming. He watered it a bit more and placed a stack of wet paper towels on top. He had one concern though. There were small spots of green mold at some places????? Either way it is outside so he figures everything will be alright. With the fact that there are pins in mind how long does he need to expect to wait until there are harvestable fruits. As A side note. He took some forcepts and harvested a bit of the whitest mycelliea. this was planted into the middle of a bale of straw that had been soaking in water for 2 days. Lets see what happens there with no cow shit.a few more holes were dug today and fortified with cooked brown rice and birdseed. These are going to be innoculated with GTs and the broth from cooking the rice is going to a few flower pots with Mazatapec mycellia straw and rice....teehee
straw and rice
so whatdaya think

I hate to be a pessimist when it come to cultivation, but I think the green is gonna win and you'll only get aborts in that hole of Brown Rice. On the other hand, I'm optimistic on the wet hay deal.

What he thought was green was actually blue. from the dog stepping on it previously. the wet towel covering the patch repaired the discoloration over night. So how long from these outddor pins could fruits be expected. Will they come up in the morning after a rain as with a typical field patch. Does the whole thing have to colonize. All he can see is the top so there is no clue as how the lower parts have colonized. How does he induce fruiting.
Side note.
The nutrient juice applied to the new gt patch shows about .5cm of mycellia growth at the surface. spores were distributd evenly through out the rice/straw substrate. temp around 89.f This nutirent juice is something else. perhaps it needs to be applied to the bail of hay. Outdoors is fun.

Need to get a new camera. I let the herb man burrow it and he pawned it. He was thinking of puttina a layer of vermiculite on the top of the holes with the gt's in them. Mabyee some on top of the maztepas. the mycellieum is all over the surface. He feels like the the mycelliea should be covered with something. Is it bad to have it exposed outside? Mabyee going to start some new holes with 1' of gravel benieth them so water doesn't collect in the bottom. don't know if it is now but surrounding soil is red clay. Sometimes it doesn't like to soak water up real well. Sould the verm be mixed with anything for the surface coat? Also a ? about the wet towel. He has left the towel on top of the Mazatapec mycelliea for now until there is some word of the vermiculite. Will this wet towel initiate fruiting. during the next week it will be in the high 80's during the day and mid to low sixties at night. Will that night time temp be ok for the fruiting.
Sounds like azurachans need to be germinated soon for the fall bed.

I'd just throw some jiffy mix over it, that'd work fine. (I think)

Get that camera, dammit!

Mabyee a problem. the largest Mazatapec patch was foolishly positioned at the mouth of a pipe that drains from a swimming pool when it rains and the water level gets too high. well it just rained and the whole area is flooded with pool/rain water mix. Is this pool water gonna kill the shit. Should he go out and flush the area with fresh water. or is it too late. luckily all the other patches are elseware.

If the area has fast drainage, that could actually be a good thing. Just like a bleach dunk for a cake. The pool water is almost identical to bleach water. If there were any contams, they're gone now!
?
If it drains fast, just throw some dry leaves over it and see what happens.

Does chlorine not kill mycellia. only the contamins. the pool has a recent shock treatment(calcium hypochlorite

The large patch is fine and has been covered with dry vermiculite. The Mazetapa mycellia that was transfered to the hay bail has spread in all directions about 5". about 2 more inches and it will break the surface of the bail. might it fruit here before the rest of the bail colonizes. At night is is perfect tempature for fruiting here and during the day perfect for colonizing. The Mazatapa flower pot is almost all colonized and was also covered with a thin layer soil it was removed and covered with vermiculite. Time to make some more nutrient juice for the hay bail. it seems to have really made the gt's begin agressive growth..they were also covered in vermiculite. He thinks it might have been better to plant the Mazataca mycellia all the way in the center of the bail. It was about 4 to 5 inches from center. With my experiences picking wild shrooms off hay bails is the the mycellia is not ever going to cover the whole thing but the fruits will be rooted about an inch in where the sustrrtate is thick. what he remembered most about the giant bails at the farm was that every morning there was a new complete flush. You could pick it clean the night before and the next day there would be just as many.
