Hi,new here,heh.
I thought I was a rare bird having these lucid dreams(where I know I am dreaming) and specifically the phasing in and out of sleep paralysis and yet another lucid dream..over..and over..a-gain.
I plan to scour the board for others posts to comment and get enlightened on how much of whatI've experienced is "normal".For the most part I like these experiences even though at times Im panicy and usually waste the experience trying to wake up.This last time..tonight..I ran the gamut, and found that once I stopped panicing ,and tried to "enjoy" it by floating..I quickly woke up..for real.Took me 6 or 7 false wakings (full of drama)before this happened.

Hey, welcome aboard
I'm no dream expert, but I can sort of relate. I had one semi-lucid dream recently - I was Eddie Murphy (for some reason) and I was out-and-about on Halloween night with my family (Eddie Murphy's family, I suppose - I've never seen his family though), but in my neighborhood. After filling our pillowcases with candy, we began to walk home, and to our surprise a scruffy German Shepard came bounding around the corner, trying to flap its wings (this is when I realized it was a dream)! After the dog flew away, the rest of the walk home was incredible. Everything seemed so similar to reality and it blew me (Eddie Murphy) away - the mind is much more powerful than most of us give it credit for.
Anyways, lucid dreams are fairly common I guess, though from what I understand most people don't have them often (and many people need to practice dream recall to remember them at all), so consider yourself one of the lucky ones! I've read that experienced lucid dreamers can actually turn their REM dream sessions into their own virtual playground - what they call a 'dreamscape'. During this time they can control the entire content of their dream - they can use it to fly above New York skyscrapers, or explore the depths of the ocean, or even practice for real life (like an inexperienced public speaker getting ready for a big speech).
If you haven't already, do a quick Google search and check out a few lucid dreaming instructional sites - there are loads of methods available to help you to enter and remain in the lucid state during REM sleep. Two hours of unimaginable freedom every night sounds pretty tempting to me... it almost makes me want to quit smoking the herb. Maybe after this bag

The one and only trick is to realize that you are dreaming. The rest is up to you.

We are always, real.. "all ways" .. We always dream.. "all ways" ..
We realize dreams.. And, we dream of realities/realizations..
Rea ties, of individuals... Real ties, of I's!
Real·i·ties..

and I thought I was so unique...lol
thanks for the replies...seems I'm an amateur...maybe I'll stop trying so hard to wake up next time... I've heard there is such thing as merged lucid dreams where two or more people (somehow)share a dream..
so, are the strangers in my lucid dreams ....??

Welcome to the M+P, where all the wack-jobs hang!
I personaly have been having intense lucid dream/sleep paralysis episodes since I was a child.
In the beginning they caused alot of confusion for me. But now I am embrace these experiences, as they take me to far away places.
I love it.

What Ginseng1 said, is as if I wrote it myself.

hey, im brand new too. and just thought i'd tag along on this post instead of making a new one. anyways heres my ordeal. ive had many lucid dreams, and they were all lovely. but umm.it seems what im trying to do now is astral project? and i cant figure out the last part to it. it always leads to either a sleep paralysis, or more commonly the false awakenings. ill finally clear my mind, and start zoomin, then i come to the realization that its finally happening, and i feel as if im too conscious to continue, then its over. back to my bedroom floor, where im stuck trying to figure out how to get out of it. it has become a routine failure. one thing i want to ask any others...the first couple times that i was in a state of sleep paralysis i suppose. i was very scared, and then i could hear my dog, just the jingle of his collar. or little whimpers. and it made me feel very comfortable and happy(as happy as i could be for being STUCK), has anyone else had an experience like that? i thought it was totally neat, and have alot more respect for my puppy dog(hes 10years old, and hellof huge) so yeah, good topic, i am still learning the ways. but have come to accept that false awakenings are going to happen sometimes.

I wonder if the sounds of your dog was real or just conjured in the dream.Maybe thats irellevant. If it comforts you.. Those false wakings are the key to some great experiences if you do not fight the sleep paralysis. You'll wake up with major headaches if you struggle to hard, you probably already know. You should "slip" into the lucid dream. Ive decided to not think so much after tonight about this whole thing.I'm going to step back for a while.Could it be causing me to get depressed/Is the experience addictive?Im easilly discouraged.Could be that I so want to experience it again..if I just could..I set myself up for failure. Also I find after a lucid dream I feel temporarilly better, physically and mentally-barring headaches from fighting the sleep paralysis which is avoidable.Seems after I have an episode,my sleep pattern is changed and I do not feel as rested again for a long time.I "always" have them during naps in the evening which I take due to sudden overpowering tiredness! These are the only times i fall asleep so quick. I dont know what astral projection is,in regards to lucid dreams and sleep paralysis.I have for one have real physical desires in my lucid dreams which seems to eliminate the possibility i've left my body. The lucid dream is freedom enough for now...where the laws and limitations of nature are thrown out the window. Im willing to bet a common thought amongst lucid dreamers..and especially the sleep paralysis sufferers..is the deep undercurrent need to escape the mortal coil so to speak... I dont mean suicidal..to be clear..i mean..just a need- to be unrestrained by reality, physically and mentally.
