    #822863 - 08/17/02 05:05 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Ive come up with a concept for an album and have been writting down lines for ages. I havnt written any songs yet. I just have a huge list of lyrics I could use.

Any tips on lyric or poetry writting?

I find it easier to find a good mood-setting riff and then sing nonsense words, just to establish a melody, then try and stick some of your lines in it.

Get some books on it. Try "The Craft of Lyric Writing" by Sheila Davis.

look up the author shiela davis. she has a couple great books about writing lyics. my fav was the song writers idea book. it had some cool excersizes for helping out when you get mental block. and a section on different song forms, i highly recommend it. i would give ya some examples, but my dog ate it ( REALLY)

i agree with you, thats usually what i do. though sometimes you will have a pretty bad ass singing line. my advice is just do what comes naturally...evenyually youll find you groove. i know this doenst help at all....its more one of those "thanks for the great info...dumb ass" but its true. all of your osngs are going to vary on the wya you decide to write them. but itll work out

I could probably write music, but I never got the hang of writing lyrics. My lyrics just never sound right, I've tried.
