You could describe this as an takeover, yes, but not as a actual "fight off".
Mycelium as well as most molds don't really fight, but compete for nutrients.
That's why you mostly see molds on not fully colonized substrates.

However, when the nutrient pipeline of either the myc or the mold is cut off, it's possible for the "winner" to over colonize the loser (since it's not actually "active" anymore) and make it look as if they fight.
Anyway, they need a point to start from.
Every time you have molds appearing somewhere on your "fully" colonized substrate you can be pretty sure, it has first colonized an uncolonized part, weather you've seen it or not. It always needs a point to get a grip.

Your myc is very nice, since it was fast enough to cut of that nutrient pipeline and didn't let the trich take over the substrate. Nice!

If you have any possibilities, try to clone that stuff and see what you can achieve with it!

I think the original cake the mutant came from may have been contaminated with bacteria and that has made some of the offspring tougher against contaminates.
I realize trich isn't a bacteria, but maybe the bacteria has made the myc stronger somehow.

Doesn't some mushroom metabolite waste contain anti-bacterial compounds?
Is it possible for a mushroom to receive an antibody to a certain disease or infection?
Can mushroom DNA be altered by bacteria?

Im going to fruit it and then clone a fruit..
