Why couldn't you birth them? If a block of honey water fully colonizes, what would prevent you from being able to successfully birth it and produce fruits?

A liquid culture WILL produce mycellium, but it will cease all grownth when the nutrients are exhausted... cakes with no nutrients = NO fruitbodies! Mycellium spawned into new nutrients (eg. Horse Poop) = Lots

I think you could use it as a starting medium, probably not the most effective as it will not have the nutrients like a brf cake or rye

Well you would have to sterilize it and in a pressure cooker or boiling, it would just burn the hell out of your honey. I would use dextrose which can be found at a home brew shop.
Good luck

well u have to sterilize the honey/water for liquid culture anyway so i doubt that would be extra problems doing it with verm.
when these jars i got sitting here finally colonize i might try a few experiments with it

Unless you squooge most of the honey water out of the verm I imagine it would take aages to colonise. Otherwise, an interesting way of producing spawn. Maybe....

Please explain ?
You don't have to "squooge" the water out of a BRF cake. It is required, for colonization as much as the nutrients are.

I meant that, just like eg casing material, you would need to squeeze out excess liquid or else I imagine it would take "aages" to colonise, just like overly wet casings or subtrates do. If, like you suggested, you were just to dunk the vermiculite into honey water and jar it, it would be far too wet. IMHO

I see what you were getting at now... Thanks for clarifying! When I do a straight Verm casing I simply add H2O2 mixed water to the verm, then add small amounts of verm till its a decent water content. I never considered someone would make it too wet. Heheheh... lost my newbie mindset for a bit
Enjoy
