Best Movies for Tripping
    #8213980 - 03/30/08 11:07 AM (16 years, 1 day ago)

I'm sure this has done before, I did a quick search and realized it had. However, I'm sure theres been new movies that fall into this category since the last time it was done.

Post up your favorite movies for tripping. New and old movies. Give them a rating 1-10.

how can you guys sit through movies while tripping?

I've tried to do it, but can't.

Tripping outside with music > tripping inside and watching movies

even during the comedown I just want to stare at the sky LOL

Gotta go with the slow, life pondering movies.

Stalker, Solaris, The Mirror, The Holy Mountain, The Color of Pomegranites, Enigma of Kaspar Hauser and so on.

As a film major, I really like to watch movies on LSD and see how different the movie is from the time I've perviously seen it. I remember having a awful trip and then watching Little Miss Sunshine to cheer my self up, just to find that the bus was coming out of the television and Steve Carrels face melting was not pleasant. In the end it only freaked me out more.
Here is a short list of trippy movies:
1. Any David Lynch Movie
2. There Will Be Blood
3. Singin' In The Rain
4. Toy Story (I couldn't get over the fact that the toys were talking)
5. The Life Aquatic
6. Rushmore
7. The Wall
8. Any Movie Made by Salvador Dalí
9. Dr. Strangelove
10. 2001

I could go on for hours.

"The Neverending Story"

When i just first started experimenting with DXM, i had rented the movie The Neverending Story for a week. Once i read that at a certain dosage you could hallucinate from it, i wanted to try it really bad. As the days progressed i upped the dosages, eventually making it to the 1800mg mark (that's equivalent to 3 bottles of robotussin gel caps i'm sure) by the fourth day.

So i binged on DXM for 7 days straight and watched the movie twice a day (once for every time i re-dosed). It was so fun because the drug would always kick in at the same part of the movie, and watching things change every time i saw it really entertained me.

- but to top everything off, i ended my binge with 4 bottles (2400mg) while watching 101 Dalmations. I think i felt myself dying that night. hah.

"Finding Nemo" is a great trip movie as well, seeing that the good underwater effects make for great visuals.

damn, i've only seen half of one salvador dali movie, pretty bad ass fuckin movie. TRIPPY ASS SHIT

i'd like to see more, and know where to get them, i mean really trippy ass shit.

when tripping, i like to not have to think. I guess that doesn't make much sense, but when tripping i feel as though i'm ALREADY thinking as much as fuckin possible, so i like things that take my thoughts away from me and shit. I LOVE shit like that. and things that takes my thoughts away, aren't things like watching a t.v. and becoming a zombie, i feel as though this only masks your thoughts. I mean things like music, or a peaceful outside setting, or something like that.

so i guess for movies i like things like, maybe easyrider or something. I guess, but the trippiest shit would have to be one of those trippy simpson episodes, i don't know.

Faces of Death- any of them are a 10 while trippin. They look so much more real and graphic.

A Clockwork Orange in the old days was a 10 now I hate that movie.

Several Quinten tarantino movies are a 10 while trippin too but most have been mentioned aside from Resevoir Dogs(10)

faces of death o.O
I think watching those while not tripping have had a slight negative effect on my life.

I watched a first person video shot from a guy jumping off a cliff where your supposed to parachute. It failed and he hit the ground. He stood up moaning and proceeded to show his fucked up hand and some of his brain or something on the ground in front of him. He walked a few feet and just fell onto the ground. Passes my mind at least once a week.

Watching The Cell on 14 HBWR seeds my first time doing psychedelics and having not a clue what I was doing made for quite possibly one of the most intense horror movie experiences of my life.

Not recommendable, but it's one of those memories you can't do without. That movie still has some of the best special effects that I've seen.

The standard sized bottle of Robotussin 8hour gelcaps is actually twenty pills, 15 mg each. One bottle contains 300 mg of Dextromethorphan.

Either way, that's a shitton of DXM. Good times.

On the topic, I find pretty anything visually stimulating makes for a good trip movie.

I liked Silent Hill and have watched A Scanner Darkly on many a trip.

Also good is the animated MTV series for Aeon Flux. It's trippy as shit and it almost makes more sense when you're totally high.

300 is the shit to trip to. As for other movies not to trip to, Apocalypse Now had UNBELIEVABLE visuals when it came to the fiery napalm, but the end where a bald, obesely grinning Marlon Brando mumbles perverse obscenities and hints at the creeping darkness of the inner soul might prove too disturbing for some.

Ah cool thanks for correcting me, i knew i had my doubts on the doses. But you're right, it WAS a shitload. Haha. i lost twenty pounds after the binge. and i forgot how to eat when i tried. i kept dropping my silverware and shit. lol

Blade Runner? I haven't seen it but from the previews of the digital remastered one, it looks pretty trippy.

The Cell was awsome on acid... 9

The old Minds Eye movies... 5

Pink Floyde The Wall .... 1 (scared the shit out of me)

Tom and Jerry.... 6 (came on while x+cid, very cool)

Who Framed Roger Rabbit... ? ( lol )

Monkey Bone... ? (brendan frasier movie, in coma land)

Baraka 'A world beyong words' ...? (a cinimatic world tour of cultures)

Baraka and Sunshine are my next ones to watch... Baraka is supposed to be jaw dropping.

I've often wondered about this as a trip flick. Seems like it has some elements that could make it work.

Latest one I've seen is Enter the Void, freaky shit.

What you got?

Tripping movies are a special sort of film. When tripping most movies you can easily see that the film is acted and the whole thing seems fake and unbearable, and then there are the films that suck you in and take you on a journey.

Enter the Void.

Totally fucked with my head when I watched it tripping, don't watch it sober first though or it'll spoil it.

Across the Universe.

Remade Beatles musical turned drama, romance and more. I laughed, I cried... Was just amazing tripping. I loved it sober too.

I tried Avatar tripping, despite the wonderful colours and special effects the acting seemed jilted and fake, I couldn't watch it. Great movie though.

Despite The Fountain's amazingly beautiful trippy sequences, I think it would make me cry hard.

I love that movie but it's really sad and twisted... To another person I watched The Wall somewhere like maybe 6 hours into 1mg of acid, man that movie was terribly tragic too.... They are trippy movies just not things I'd want to trip to most of the time....  I dunno I trip pretty hard, all I can do is stare at beautiful, fascinating imagery

Austin Powers was good, needed something like that to turn an overbearing trip around
Adi Shankaracharya was interesting, for the same purpose

Baiju Bawra, is the only movie I would actually recommend tripping to at some point

Limits of control is a very very trippy movie.

Visually it isn't trippy but the dialogue always trips me the fuck out. I am very obsessed with the strange nature of existence and that is one of the few movies I've seen that talks about that sort of stuff.

Fantasia is objectively the greatest movie for tripping + nitrous combo

I say this in every trip movie thread but all of these I have personally watched tripping and each one was fucking epic and mind blowing

in no particular order

Coraline (gotta be in 3D blu-ray)
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
The Boxtrolls (gotta be in 3D blu-ray)
Enemy
Dark City
Tree of Life
Any Planet Earth episode
Samsara
Baraka

I'm sure I'm missing some too

Oh and if you're not of the faint of heart and can handle some disturbing ass shit, like death, a gruesome, graphic, and detailed car wreck that leaves a couple of people slaughtered, and incest between a brother and a sister...than go ahead and Enter the Void on a good dose.

enter the void is the dumbest movie ever. it literally doesn't even have a plot at all. it's just a stupid long porno, it's barely even "trippy"

While I do think the movie itself is awful, I have to disagree with it being barely even trippy. That's nonsense, bruh. The visuals are spectacular and it's about as trippy as a film can possibly be.

But yes the plot is pretty fucking horrific, I agree.
