This might be the wrong forum for this inquiry - mods please move this if you see fit.
Say I wanted to create a website like myspace. What kind of skill level would a website designer need to build this for me, and how much should I expect to pay. The idea is to create a networking site with the following features:
1. Each user has an account. 2. Each user's account has a network of other user accounts that they can communicate with. 3. Say there are three accounts, User A, B, and C. 4. User A is networked to B and C, but B and C are not networked to each other and do not know about each other. 5. Users A and B share documents that are posted onto their shared space, but user C can't access A and B's shared documents. User C can only access A and C's shared documents.
Its not this simple, but this is the basic framework. But still, this should be pretty basic stuff for a web designer right?

i might be wrong but i imagine that there is a CMS that will do what you want. You could dig around and find out if one suits your needs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_content_management_systems
I believe it would be cheaper to pay someone to setup a CMS for you, than it would be to have someone build something for you.
i've only played with drupal. http://drupal.org/ There are a ton of modules that you can use to add more features, maybe it has what you want. http://drupal.org/project/Modules
Drupal is free open source software, if you needed to, you could probably pay someone to build a module that does what you want. Maybe more bang for your buck this way.

Like he said, there are many scripts in place for these types of things.
I would check out http://www.hotscripts.com aswell as some other places
From what you described, it seems fairly simple. Care to eleborate any more, or is this top secret shit?

top secret shit
the only problem is that it might remain top secret unless I find somebody that wants to help me build it. Thanks for the links though, I'll be sure to check them out.
