Atheist 'Agenda'?
    #8182426 - 03/23/08 02:34 AM (16 years, 10 days ago)

I see this term thrown about on nearly every Christian Message Board.

I don't get it as other than a paranoid reaction to unanswerable questions regarding inconsistencies and holes in their doctrines.

As an atheist, I do not pay dues, go to meetings, wear jewelry or a bumper sticker proudly proclaiming my non-belief - and I certainly have no group agenda regarding religion.

My personal 'agenda' regarding religion is: "Explain it to me so that makes sense without using the word faith or scare tactics AND show me why I should choose your dogma over another's."

The reason I have such a dangerous 'agenda' is because religious 'morals' have a profound effect on my personal life and religious 'thinking' is the antithesis to rational thinking.

What is especially humorous is how religions that detest each other will link arms when faced off against a *gasp* atheist. Commonalities will be found for the moment and then quickly discarded when the atheist leaves their presence.

aww never seen those Darwinian bumper stickers and what have you not?

*cough*

That may not be true for you, but the Christians are indeed under organized and coordinated attack. Sure, some jump to conclusions, but on the whole their sense of being under attack by militant atheists is entirely justified.

Is "every Christian Message Board" rallying against you, or is it agitation directed against militant atheists by militant Christians? Nuance, OC.

And I think no reasoning in the world can obscure to the close observer that you have an anti-religious agenda.

I am in no communion with any athiest organization nor do I suscribe to any athiest newsletters.

I regularly read posts on www.Randi.org about many subjects, but do not participate there

Any incidental contact with other athiests is solely on these boards and is openly available for anyone to see.

Any PMS I send here are of a personal nature and have nothing to do with conspiring to solidify any agenda.

I am against stupid laws brought about by irrational thinking that have an impact on me.

Childhood religious indoctrination (the antithesis of thinking) carried into adulthood is the largest source of meddling in other's affairs.

Clear enough?

Wow that sounds like a legal disclaimer :awesome:

I'm not saying you are part of all those things, but that all those things do in fact do exist. Christians are facing a countercurrent of organized atheists out to undermine and destroy them, so while some of them blow this out of proportion they on the whole have a point.

Honestly, I don't know what you mean by that. Don't mistake my posting for a personal attack, it's merely a friendly locking of antlers.

I'm all for strict and complete separation of church and state just like you are. In addition to that I feel any fundamentalists of any kind should keep their paws off the laws of the land.

I think its indoctrination of every sort throughout life is responsible for that. You're not blind, look how the media are playing us. Most of that indoctrination isn't religious, its political.

Its all about the powers that be, be they religious or political, and the pressure they put on the free minds of the people to herd them to where they want to get them.

It was not a defensive disclaimer. Just stated that the sum total of my 'agenda' is openly expressed here and nowhere else. Just don't see how that can make me part of any conspiracy against Christians. I haven't even read 'The God Delusion'...

Who is more likely to accept political tripe: one brought up accepting religious tripe or one who has learned (as least somewhat moreso) to think on their own?

I've been clear in saying that I don't think you are.

Still, if you had a magic button you could press which would make all religion disappear off the face of the earth, and fill the newly formed void the minds of the people with reason, benevolence and logic, I think you would press it so hard you'd hurt your finger

You are very clear in your posts that you consider religion to be an evil and the scourge of mankind. Even though you don't drive around with a God Is Dead bumper sticker or exchange secret signals with pod people, I think its safe to say you have a personal anti-religious agenda.

Its not a wild conclusion to jump to.

Any anti-religious sentiments are born from the intrusion that religion has into everyday life.

Any little thing I can do to weaken religion, I will be sure to do.

Wow this reminds me i needed to post a topic cause i to have a problem dealing with my personal beliefs.I respect every religion out there, i am nobody to insult someone in believing in something.Well i am raised a Christian but i often find myself not believing. My parents would kill me if they found out i didn't believe in Christianity as much as they do (no really i think they would be more OK with me being gay, which I'm not). I have a friend on here that is a taoist and he said its not a religion its a belief and I'm really interested but I'm still looking for some to believe in.

What I'm looking for some advice and guidance on the right religious path because i dint consider myself a atheist or a  Christian. Also how do i tell my parents I'm not a Christian.

I'm sorry i could go on and on about talking about religion and beliefs.

Please respond or message me

I always thought that philosophy and religion were essentially the same thing. Religion is just an organized form of philosophy.

Another thing, what parent does not indoctrinate their child?

How is indocrtinating your child with the idea that women are lesser any different than telling them in the existence of a god?

Christianity is a philosophy. A dumb one perhaps, but still a philosophy.

Yes, all against false and conflicting believes.

At least, I am interested in those not conflicting, and in finding out, why others conflict and why others are more likely to become true

Atheists and similar ilk are not much better than religious nuts when it comes to victimization - never heard of The Christian Agenda?

Obviously, people have different goals, different motives, different wants, etc. The are a number of organizations, from atheists to Christians to homosexuals to red pandas, that attend to these differences by trying to influence politics and other areas of life. Claiming that there is a Big Conspiracy to wipe you (or your "way of life") out is a common tactic used by people trying foster fanatical support for their cause.
