Gymnopilus aeruginosus Gymnopilus junonius Panaeolus subbalteatus Psilocybe caerulipes Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata
Im newer to this website and wanted to figure out what kind of shrooms I can find here in PA ....so I looked on here and found that these^ shrooms grow in Pennsylvania. Could someone tell me what Gymnopilus, Psilocybe and Panaeolus mean??
Are these shrooms any good? Has anyone tripped on these specific shrooms?

But, don't expect to find any of them, at least not until you increase your knowledge base a lot.

yep, not to discourage you, but none of those mushrooms are very common in Pennsylvania. You'll have to do some serious searching, and like xmush said, much learning.

Genus is singular, genera is plural.

That question is actually against the forum rules, since the answer can be found so simply with this:

What's the most efficient way for a rookie to get a good base? Or what would you recommend.

Study all the mushrooms you can find in your area and look on the internet for information on the active ones. Also check any local mycological societies.

I recommend getting a good field guide or two, I really like Miller and Miller. It's a 'falcon guide' book, and available at most boerders etc. And also just start becoming more aware of mushrooms that you find growing. Try to ID them with the book, or post an ID request here. We like to ID anything, so don't by shy about posting a request. (just follow the ID request guidelines of course). You will very quickly start to be able to discern different features of the mushrooms in your area, and be less likely to overlook something "special."
