Not only can this help the worlds' water problems, but if this could be put into a more portable form it would be awesome for on the go water desalination during oceanic voyages and the like.

I would hope the specs are free and open and this isn't just another person trying to make a buck off of the worlds problems.

If solving the worlds problems is profitable, then the problems will get solved. The trouble is... people cannot make a buck by solving worlds problems.

The trouble is that people cannot solve the worlds problems by making a buck. I believe most of our problems are caused by trying to make a buck.

I read some more on it, it sounds like it'll run off anything that burns.
Quote:
The Stirling engine, named after its designer, Robert Stirling, a 19th Century Scottish minister, is a non-polluting device that plays heat against cold to create energy. It is a closed box with two chambers, one filled with gas. Once heated from the outside, with anything from burning wood chips to charcoal, the gas expands, creating pressure. That pressure drives a piston from the hot chamber into the cool chamber.
In Kamen's design, that mechanical power achieves two goals: It creates electrical power - 300 continuous watts – enough to run a few electrical devices - and, as a bonus, creates enough heat to distill contaminated water, making it drinkable.

That is better than just a distiller. A stirling engine to produce electricity and distils water with the waste heat.
