Who's your favorite Mod/Person (Culti Forum)?
    #8177001 - 03/21/08 06:34 PM (16 years, 1 day ago)

Who is your favorite mod on the boards OR the person with good solid advice every thread?

  • agar

  • azurescens

  • Blue Helix

  • Wronguy

  • coda

  • Creamcorn

  • fahtster

  • Holydiver

  • hyphae

  • Magesh

  • monstermitch

  • Mycofile

  • Prisoner#1

  • Roadkill

  • RogerRabbit

  • scatmanrav

  • shirley knott

  • trippinthru

  • Workman

I'll give you my honest answers for all

agar: Very Informational, took this hobby to new heights, and very relaxed to noobies and helpful

azurescens: Hardly ever wrong.

Blue Helix: Informational, too much writing, couldn't get through all of his posts...yet. Has some good posts though

Wronguy: Not impressed by any means.

coda: Informational, haven't read through all his posts yet.

Creamcorn: Informational, haven't read through all his posts yet. Seen his teks though and I like

fahtster: The one guy who i've seen the best success on cakes. I'm sure their are others though. Meh for the most part though.

Holydiver: Don't know, haven't read through posts yet.

hyphae: Informational, Casing Tek, not impressed.

Magesh: Informational in some fields, his teks suck.

monstermitch: Still new but ok

Mycofile: Haven't read through all posts yet.

Prisoner#1: Informational, haven't read through all posts yet.

Roadkill: Informational, ok. Haven't read through all posts yet.

RogerRabbit: Informational, Up To Date, Shits on noobs and is fair, (there's been a lot of comments of rr for his dvd being released and fellow shroomerites outraged by how he "ripped them all off" because all the info was on shroomery. Either way I don't care what you say, if you had the opportunity and money to make a dvd you'd do it too. I do not agree with how he called some of the things in his dvd 'his tek' that a bit like "hmm.." but is one of the best teachers on this site that I belieive and is very helpful and knowledge exceeds others. Knows Paul Stamets, John Allen. All those dudes and roadkill. Good guy.

scatmanrav:
Don't know haven't read all posts, yet. Very informational though.

shirley knott: Have no idea. All I know is he likes Ralph from the simpsons. lol

trippinthru: I'd fuck the shit out of her

Workman: Informational but I haven't read all his posts yet.

O...me? Once I get all my information in my head with good nights sleep. I just started taking Benedryl Allergy/Cold so I can sleep well these nights. I'm on RR's 8,000 post. Went through ALL agars and have all the info I need to start my hobby. I'm building a room specifically for it so I can't wait.

So. When your cakes don't produce shit and you get contamination from the water getting on your Manure and dripping back off into the perlite. You'll say to yourself. Hmm....maybe that dude that was telling me a whole bunch of junk was right.....

i dont know how you can rate any of those guys with no expierence under your belt. all of them are helpful and you should always be pleased for any of them to chime in.

IMO fahtster is probabally one of the best poster's on these boards. he's smarter than shit and has helped me out the most out of all those people you posted.

didnt you have another thread like this anyways? this thread is pointless. everyone learns a little differently and that's what is nice about all the different teks out there. some work better than other's for people. magash's tek's are what got me started in bulk.

fahster
agar (where the hell is he anyway, i only recently noticed he hasnt posted in years)
monstermitch
creamcorn
rr but he never follows up on re: he will post once and if you ask something else hes gone like the wind.

i chose those because their material/advice wasn't the only I followed but at least 80% of it was from them by either past threads or present thread or via pm.

fahster helped me alot.

i have to thank resptod to, he provided me with some essential materials and I didn't even ask him, he just looked out for me.

and flavoraid, we chill on aim alot and discuss stuff...he's helped me also.

Fuck yeah it does. PMP blows period. You will never maintain above 80% rH with a PMP because of the water. His rye teks bunk too. Anyone can make a tek these days, anyways. He sterilizes his casings, soaks the grain with failing to rinse out the dirt and shit that can cause clumping. Anyone can make a tek like that.

Because of the water? What does that mean? Sounds to me like you have no experience with this tek. The PMP I made for my first grow gained, and maintained 99% RH in like an hour. It's a good tek. Ask people who know.

Where to start?

Dumbfounded... I have mixed feelings about this... but I trust you have good intentions. Still, I am not a huge fan of popularity contests.

I've known a few people who wanted to learn EVERYTHING before they began. They are all very good mycologists today.

I see nothing wrong with offering advice even when you haven't tried it yourself.

When I became a moderator of this forum, I had never grown to bulk, or used agar, nor a glove box/flow hood (and for the most part, I still haven't)... I was simply patient enough to answer n00b questions OVER AND OVER AGAIN... no matter how many times the question had been asked... and I was smart enough to provide the correct information whenever possible. Within a year, I was moderating n00bs.

However, I think you should always make it known when you are simply speculating... or give credit to the person(s) you've learned from whenever you borrow their suggestions.

But remember... very little is known about mushrooms... and mycology is constantly evolving.

Some of Magash's teks may seem a bit outdated now... for example. But his teks were CUTTING EDGE four years ago!

The original PF tek is SO different from what RR and others are doing with it today, it is almost unrecognizable... aside from the BRF and 1/2 pint jars!

Remember drip shields?

Some mycologists are on the cutting edge... many mycologists make due with what they have... and others brought us to the cutting edge thanks to their accidents and mistakes. They ALL deserve your respect.

Some may be better teachers than others but they all brought this hobby to where it is today... and they all left posts for you to read.

I understand what you're getting at but the people that do will keep making the same freaking mistakes and shouldn't they be looking at the people that cultivate commercially??? Just a thought, anyways. Most of the people here are fucking morons man. LOL. I'm not downing anyone i'm simply stating my opinion and knowing what is wrong and outdated. I never wanted to be popular by any means, just wondering where current people are on the boards. I respect everyone and hope you succeed in this hobby . Thanks for the input Carventes.

I'm not a big fan of taking pictures. I'm pretty confident as I stated above in my mycology teachers and their urge to learn more and more. The only thing on their minds is to dispute bad cultivation info and moving forward.

I think a more interesting topic for a thread would be, "Which Shroomerites are currently on the cutting edge of Mycology?"

There IS a lot of outdated information out there. I took a break from this forum for three years... and imagine my surprise when I came back and saw COIR being used as SUBSTRATE!?!

I've had to do quite a bit of work just to get back up to date.

Still, depending on how much money you have, and where you live... you may need to rely on any number of teks in order to have a successful grow.

The most current teks are not always possible for every grower. Different teks and shortcuts are helpful. Trust me. I have lived in SEVERAL places where buying ALL the proper cultivation supplies was difficult (Including NYC without a CAR! NYC has no WalMart, Home Deopt or Lowes! Thank GOD for pet stores!)

It is great to know the BEST way to do things... but MOST hobby mycologists DON'T need to grow commercially and CAN simplify without guilt.

There is NOTHING wrong with a ghetto tek every once in a while.

For those who know, well they just know:thumbup:

I have a couple mycology teachers that teach it at a college.

O yeah I forgot about Oatman and Hippie3

Oatman: Spawning to Coir. Good writeup

Hippie3: If it wasn't for him and his over obsession with steeling peoples teks and calling it his and thinking he knows everything when really he just sucks. There would be nothing to laugh at.

You fucking ROCK!~

along with...

Anno

RR

Una

Agar

Alien

and a few other old timers that weren't even mentioned.

RR...
is probably one of the smartest person's that I have ever met...
and I have been fortunate to get to know him in Real Life...and his wife Vivian.

Great people...I love them to death!~

Agar...
another one of the smartest people that I know.
He is MacGyver like when it comes to finding new items to use in mycology.

He got married in December to his long time girl friend "Trippinthru".

RR and I have done some online searchs on him...
and didn't find a death certificate on him in his county he lives in...
so he isn't dead as far as we know.

Please stop the rumors that he is dead until we hear differently.

thank you!~

i have had some excellent harvests in the past and i owe it all to Hyphae for his post:Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy..

i thought that he really did a good job of explaining the amount of water that is needed to mist your casings. using this strategy i got 9x11 trays chocked so full of shrooms that there wasnt one spot where anymore could possibly have grown! it was amazing! been having some problems with contams lately tho, so i haven't seen a mushroom in a while :mad2:

Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?

Who is your favorite mod on the boards OR the person with good solid advice every thread?

This is a simple question for me to answer. My answer is as follows:

  • Every Administrator and Moderator who takes the time to help others when they can, despite the fact that we volunteer our time here. We work hard so you guys can have this community that is now being singled out to an elite few. I would rather you just said thank you.

  • Anyone who takes time out of their day to help others, even when that help is solely a reflection of there own personal experience versus years of knowledge.

  • Anyone who has participated in our scavenger hunts whether through donations, running the hunt, or trying to learn something by participating to win.

  • Our sponsors who take pride in their products and try and keep us going in this hobby.

  • The people who trade their mycology products to further their own collections and keep the few that don't have much moving forward.

  • Anyone who remains humbled by this hobby.

  • Anyone who takes the time to write a tek. These folks are trying to document the experiences they've had and bring new knowledge to members of this community. To openly state your displeasure with these folks is to shit on this community and what it stands for!

While I'm not happy with the opinion you're giving on a lot of trusted people here, it is your opinion and your entitled to it. A lot of the folks you mentioned are reaching far beyond methods of greats like Paul Stamets and forging new ground in home cultivation. I still don't see the correlation in this thread with mushroom cultivation, but a moderator has already replied and the thread remains open.

Since I don't want to be accused of closing this because of your opinion with me, I'll let it run its course for now.

There isn't any correlation in this thread.

Do not think for a minute since I replied to this thread..
that I am in anyway in agreement of it being up in this forum...
it is very off topic.

I hate these kind of threads...actually.

I only left it up so I wasn't the bad guy that closed the thread...plain and simple.

and you made some very good points in your post up above.
