For some reason, I saw pirated and was thinking:
Pirates, taking over radio stations.

Anyway, around where I live, clear channel and cumulus own 99% of the stations. I'd love some pirate stations available here, underground info and whatnot, if thats your thing.

I can see the FCC's complaints with taking over frequencies, I guess, but it is just radio frequencies, the idea of buying them seems a little odd to me.

This used to be a popular thing to do way back when. You don't want to be stationary though. Mobile is the way to go but unlike drugs and the DEA, there are actually hobbyist out there with nothing better to do in life than track you (easily done even when mobile) and turn you in.

The good news is that the FCC is always issuing fines but not following up to see that they are paid. I've personally known violators to get letter after letter from them before getting fined only to continue and never pay the fine. Never know when you will be the one they make an example of though and penalties can be steep if actually enforced.

Oh yeah... You are going to need a lot more TX power than pictured. This is a very expensive hobby.

You would be shocked at how much money these guy's have in their setups just for bragging rights in an illegal and little known circle. Imagine running nitrous sitting still just to turn 8 high power alternators to juice up the amps and you can't even get it in a magazine or car show.
