Shrooms grew just fine but some green shades on the stem of some
    #8171358 - 03/20/08 11:09 AM (16 years, 30 days ago)

My Shrooms grew just fine but there is some green shades on the stem of some of them. I'd hate to think they are beyond help, are they alright as long as I cut off the green parts?

Thanks

Any chance of a picture?  If it really is mold, most of the responses you will get will say to toss it and try again.  If you are willing to do that, I would recommend it.  Knowing I've ignored that very same advise (on a cake, not finished shrooms), I'm guessing you just want to eat them .  In that case, chop off the green and dispose of that... then down the hatch and hope for the best?

lol thanks. On further examination some of the batch is turning BLUE!

Is it alright to eat the non blue ones or is the whole batch gone?

*note to self, use Alc lamp next time for sterilization!

Also when picking fruit, can I do it bare hands?

The blue is all right, its some natural reaction that happens with most cubes

Did you grow mushrooms and not know they turn blue when handled ?

Yes ,you can use your bare hands when handling the fruits of your labor
once the cake produces 'shrooms
The mushroom itself as a low risk of getting a contam
Now if you were to store fresh picked wet mushrooms in a dark place with no air then I can assure you your mushroom would either rot or contract a real nasty black or grey mold

after they are dried in my experience if they go blue or green your gunna have a hell of a time. i noticed if they get color on them rather than just normal mushroom color it's way more intense.

Thanks yall, for the great adive. I cut off most of the blue stems and left with mostly caps. I'd like to upload a picture, what online service is best to use for these pics?

*Random hero, I put the bag in a closed closet for a few days and I can see Grey mold starting to set in.

Thanks again.

That bluing is just the 'shroom bruising. It's completely safe to eat.

As far as image hosting sites I always use www.imageshack.us; it's completely free.

S***T, I threw away so much of the blue shrooms! I thought they were contaminated!

It makes sense that that was just bruising since the blueness set in mostly after I picked the fruits!

I must have skipped that part of all of your posts, darn!

Doh! that's what I get for being absent minded.
