I think coir is the winner!
I would have to agree, the poo wins hands down as far as number of flushes and size of fruits but coir still wins in my opinion for the sheer simplicity of use(That and the fact that I too would actually have to pay for poo because there are not horses here),as long as every time you are putting casings in the greenhouse you are also prepping more jars it doesn't matter if it only gives you two flushes, just toss it and get a new casing in there
and that's my outlook on the whole thing too! Once you have worked out a system, it's just Fruit, Fruit, Fruit...
And if i wanna make 2 tubs tomarrow. Great! go to petsmart on the way home from work and pick up a brick of coir for $5.

I'm at the end of my first grow (pinning) and I did a WBS to straight coir with nothing added, and no casing layer. To hydrate the coir, I just put the coir in a big bucket, dumped in water, and stirred. I'll have to try your ways next time.

nice thread, I've done about 4 grows since November 07. First started with BRF cakes, then BRF with Flax seed, then tried WBS.
Created my coir substrate about a week ago, and to see how the mycelium colonizes the substrate compared to crumbling and casing my cakes, is astonishing. Very pleased so far, and haven't even had pinning yet.
I was going to just case with vermiculite-being the lazy bastard I am. But, reading all this kind of got me excited, and think I'll go and buy some more peat moss.
You guys are awesome-

I will preach those words for a long time Oatman2000...
RR is the one I remember talking about coir/coffee grounds being used to the same effect as hmanure.
I know someone who does all his bulk with coir/coffee, the fruits have never got ridicliously gigantic but large and dense as all hell, I'm stoned, but I concure.
Coir+coffee is great!
nice flush by the way
