Hard Drive Question

Okay, I moved and I didn't have the luggage capacity to bring my desktop computer with me, so I brought just the hard drive with me. This computer here doesn't have the capacity right now of having two hard drives hooked up simultaneously. We've tried hooking it up on its own, but every time it gets to Windows it comes to that screen that has you select to run Windows normally, in safe mode, and both bring it to restart.
What I'm looking to do is to get an external hard drive to copy this one over to, but I need to be able to access it first. Is there any way to get around that Windows problem so I can use my hard drive on this computer? Also, while I'm at it, how much would a 200gb external hard drive cost me?

Ahh, kick ass, wasn't aware there was such a thing.
How is this one? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7291557&type=product&id=1118840521901&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=7291557
My hard drive is a Western Digital. I think its called Caviar, enhanced IDE hard drive. 200 gigs.

Awesome. I'll probably go with an enclosure to make sure the hard drive stays protected and cooled down and stuff. In the meantime, is there any way to get around that Windows thing so I can access my stuff?

Is this a laptop? If not each ide cable should have space for 2 devices, make one master and the other slave, althow im not sure if 2 hard drives can be on the same cable, i think they can just run slow.
if thats not an option then, its sorta risky, but you could make another partition on the hard drive and install linux or another windows and boot from that fresh, but id be careful what you do at this point however, partitioning you run the "chance" of deleting everything.
I "think" you can run linux from a cd? purhaps thats an option?

You should be able, as long the hard drive is a IDE one, to hook up 2 hard drives on one cable. You just have to jumper one drive(the one you want to boot from) as master, and the other(yours) as slave.

Ahh yes, we were just discussing hooking it up in place of the CD-ROM as a temporary way of accessing the files I need right now, and then getting an enclosure later. We'll give it a shot, thanks everyone.
